Leonard A. Vogel, 86, died Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.
He was born September 1, 1926 in Bridgeport, NE to Jake and Amelia (Deines) Vogel.
On April 28, 1946 he was united in marriage to Darleen M. Steinbrecker in Bayard.
Leonard and his family moved to Alliance in 1955 and was a lifelong area farmer. Leonard’s love of farming began as a child and continued throughout his life until retirement at age 62. He loved spring planting and ultimately fall harvest. After retirement he began the hobby of restoring antique tractors. He loved going to the casinos with his kids in anticipation of winning the big one
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Leonard is survived by his wife, Darleen; his children, Vern (Marcia) Vogel of Alliance, Vikki (Gary) Bolek of Hemingford, Cheryl Neafus of Lincoln, Steve Vogel of Alliance, Keith (Jo) Vogel of Lakeside and Lori Harwick of Lincoln, 16 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Helen Becking of Scottsbluff, Richard Vogel of Beatrice, Dorothy Eskam of Alliance, Ruth Schledewitz of Gering, Robert Vogel of Alliance, Jurene Turpin of Idaho, Howard
Vogel of Gering, Delbert Vogel of Bayard, Elwood Vogel of Scottsbluff, Janice Henkel of CA, Sandra Jines of AZ and Betty Duncan of Bayard and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Edward and Donald, and infant sister, Bernita.
Memorial services will be Wednesday, January 9 at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Alliance with Reverend Martin T. Schnare and Reverend Richard C. Mueller officiating.
Memorials may be given to the Alliance volunteer Fire Department.
