Trent Richter got the pitching win through 5 1/3 innings on the hill, notching six strikeouts and allowing just four hits. Cody Snelling finished it up with 1 2/3 innings of no-hit ball and struck out the Nationals in order to end the game.
Chadron has dropped back-to-back games after starting the summer 10-1. Gering is in Chadron tonight with a 7:00 anticipated first pitch.
Gering 11, Bridgeport 3 – SRs
It was a five-run fourth inning that keyed Gering’s win Tuesday, 11-3 over Bridgeport.
Austin Abbott pitched a complete game three-hitter and struck out five Bridgeport bats. He tripled and drove in a run, and it was a true team effort offensively: seven of Gering’s nine hitters in the lineup drove in one run.
Marce Vasquez had two hits and homered for Bridgeport for a 1-0 lead after the first half inning.
Bridgeport fell to 3-6 and travels to Alliance Wednesday.
Gering improves to 4-8 and will play at Chadron Wednesday.
Sidney 8, Alliance 4 – SRs
Alliance hosts Bridgeport Wednesday after having its four-game winning streak snapped in Sidney, 8-4.
It was a close back-and-forth affair throughout before Sidney scored five times in the fifth to break away for their third straight win.
Cade Pfeiffer and Ryan Rash each collected two hits for the Spartans.
Moises Garcia allowed just four hits in his 4 2/3 innings as the Alliance starter, but five walks and a pair of defensive errors by Alliance led to Garcia allowing seven runs.
Alliance drops to 7-5 and will host Bridgeport Wednesday at 7:00 on AM 1400 KCOW.
Gordon 12, Morrill 3 – SRs
Gordon scored a dozen times and kept Morrill winless with a 12-3 victory over the Vigilantes.
It looked good early for Morrill with a 2-0 lead after the first inning but seven Gordon runs in the fourth and fifth ended the game on the run rule. Gordon didn’t need the big hit to blow the game open, smacking just one extra-base hit of its eight total.
Logan Dexter doubled and drove in three runs and Matt Johnson brought in a pair for Gordon.
John Sheren didn’t last long on the mound as Gordon’s starter tossing the first inning and allowing a run on two hits before giving way to Denis Mulcahy who pitched the final four frames and struck out six Vigilantes while allowing just four hits.
Morrill drops to 0-10 and goes for its first win of the summer when it hosts Sidney Wednesday night.
