Legion Baseball – Wednesday’s Results
Alliance 8, Bridgeport 0 – SRs
Alliance returned to the win column a night after having its winning streak snapped with a home shutout over Bridgeport, 8-0 Wednesday.
Nathan Lauder pitched a complete five-inning game with the run rule in place to end it early, allowing just one hit and striking out five Bombers. Lauder also doubled at the plate among his three hits. Two RBI singles and an RBI groundout broke a scoreless tie in the third and Alliance didn’t need any more support.
Braden Honstien collected three hits and drove in two runs. Peyton Pinedo drove in two runs and was 2/3 at the plate.
Alliance begins tournament play in North Platte tomorrow starting with Littleton, Colorado at 5:00, followed by a game against North Platte at 7:00. Saturday morning Alliance and McCook meet at 9:30.
Bridgeport falls to 3-7 and has almost a full week off before hosting Gordon next Wednesday.
Gering 7, Chadron 5 – SRs
Up north in Chadron Gering scored twice in the final inning and held off a Nationals rally to win 7-5.
Leading 5-4 in the seventh, Quinton Janicek hit an RBI sac fly and Austin Abbott followed with an RBI double for a 7-4 Gering lead. Mike Geisler doubled in a Chadron run in the bottom of the seventh but the Nationals couldn’t draw closer.
Chadron hit four of the game’s six doubles and Logan Tiensvold led all hitters with three RBIs and a homer. Mike Gutherless had a three-hit night for Gering to support Brent Barge who threw a complete game victory and struck out six.
Chadron is among the field at the North Platte tournament this weekend and opens play on Saturday at noon against McCook. The Nats face Littleton, CO at 2:30 then play games against Holdrege and North Platte Sunday afternoon.
Twin Cities 4, Buckley 3 – SRs Game 1
Twin Cities’ Evan Hughes smacked a walkoff single to beat the Chappell Buckley Bombers 4-3 in the opener of a doubleheader in Scottsbluff. Hughes’ hit came in the 12th inning and helped the Zephyrs overcome five errors.
Twin Cities starter Alexis Gurrola went six innings allowing two runs before giving way to Cody Snelling for the seventh. Buckley worked a one-out RBI single to tie the game 3-3. AJ Castillo-Powell pitched one-hit ball over the next five innings keeping Buckley’s bats quiet.
Twin Cities (5-10) is on the road at Lexington Saturday at 1:00 and returns the doubleheader to Buckley with games in Chappell Sunday afternoon at 1:00 and 3:00.
