Chadron High advanced to the second ground at the Class C-1 girls state basketball tournament Thursday night, beating Lincoln Christian 54-43.
It was an easier game for the Lady Cardinals than their first game last year, when the same Lady Crusaders took them to overtime, but that’s not to say it was easy.
Chadron, the #1 seed, used a 9-0 run late in the second quarter to build a 13-point halftime lead and kept the lead between 6 and 13 the rest of the way despite scoring just 1 field goal in the final 9-1/2 minutes.
Lincoln Christian coach Nick Orduna said the game was decided by his team’s cold 4-minutes in the second quarter “when the ball just wouldn’t drop,” and that he was proud of the way they fought back both in the game and all season.

Chadron High coach Curt Holmquist felt the game came down to rebounding, with the Cardinals limiting Christian to one shot by controlling the boards and chasing down loose balls…especially in the first half.
Chadron was led by 14 points from Peyton Hinn, while Bailea Kerr added 13 and Ashlyn Eitmiller 10. Lincoln Christian, which ends the year 17-10, got 12 points each from Morgan Dworak and Dani Andersen…all of Andersen’s coming in the first half.
Chadron, now 23-2, plays Pierce Friday afternoon at 2:45 MT at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. Pierce topped Minden 56-38 to improve to 21-4.
