LADY CARDINALS TAKE 4TH AT STATE

Chadron and Wahoo battled right down to the end of the game, as the Lady Warriors edged the Lady Cardinals 66-60 at Lincoln on Saturday in the Girls State Basketball tournament consolation game.

Chadron and Wahoo went back and forth early on in the first quarter playing to a 16-16 tie.  By halftime the Lady Cardinals pulled ahead 34-28.  At the end of the third quarter Chadron clung to a 50-49 lead.  In the fourth quarter the Lady Cardinals defense held Wahoo scoreless for 4 minutes before giving up some key shots late in the game.  With the late surge, Wahoo went on to win 66-60.

Peyton Hinn led the way in scorning for the Lady Cardinals with 20 points, Bailea Kerr and Alia Brennan both scored 9 points apiece.  Senior Briley Hannaford reached a milestone; she scored 1,000 points in her high school career.  Hannaford transferred from Hemigford to Chadron after her sophomore year.  The Lady Warriors were led in scoring by Samantha Grandgenett with 17 points.  Tschida Johnson and Taylor Otte both scored 13 points.

Chadron finishes the season with a 23-4 record, and will return three starters for next year’s team.
