The win didn’t come easy. The Huskers were held scoreless on 4 hits over the first 5 innings and trailed 5-0, then exploded for 7 runs on 5 hits in the bottom of the 6th. Nebraska sent 12 batters to the plate in the sixth inning, the first time they’ve batted around this season.
The Huskers added an insurance run in the 7th inning on a hit, 2 wild pitches, and a sacrifice fly. The victory leaves the Huskers 1-7 while the Lobos slip to 2-5. Neither team has played a conference game yet…Nebraska in the Big Ten and New Mexico in the Mountain West.
Nebraska will look to sweep the two-game series with the Lobos when the two teams meet at 12:05 p.m. Sunday at Hawks Field. Junior Christian DeLeon is scheduled to take the mound for the Huskers against New Mexico righty Sam Wolff.
