The Hemingford Community Foundation is excited to announce they have received a grant in the amount of $40,000 to advance the mission of The Body Shop. The grant is managed by the Panhandle Partnership and Panhandle Area Development District.
The Body Shop began in April 2014 with the intent of providing a two-fold mission:
- To provide a safe environment for Hemingford residents of all ages to develop and maintain healthy lifestyles through access to a range of quality classes and fitness equipment.
- To offer space for positive social connectedness opportunities.
The Body Shop is a unique community project and social entrepreneurship ran 100% by volunteers. Over $21,000 volunteer time is donated annually to provide a wonderful space and service to the community and to a lifespan of ages.
“It feels surreal to finally see all of the hard work The Body Shop and Hemingford Community Foundation volunteers and board members have been committed to keeping it progressing forward and be recognized,” said Jessica Davies co-owner of The Body Shop and founding board member of the Hemingford Community Foundation.
“The grant is considered a one-time infusion to help propel social enterprises towards fulfilling their mission,” Davies added. “Watch for opportunities in the coming months for your key input on equipment you would like to see available at The Body Shop.”
The Body Shop is a dynamic community involved project in Hemingford. It promotes community wellness through physical fitness, community gathering, sharing of talents, and a shared space for celebrations and gatherings. The Innovation and investment committee encouraged the Hemingford Community Foundation and The Body Shop to share with other communities the impact and benefits that a public/private partnership can have for the community.
We are so proud to provide such a wonderful asset to the Hemingford community and the main street. The Body Shop is a not-for-profit fitness center providing service to the Hemingford community. All membership dues are invested back into the center for expanded equipment, class offerings, and to the building for continued community benefit.
