The recent hot weather has been no help at all to the city of Gordon, which lost its only water storage tank to a ruptured bottom last month.
City Manager Fred Hlava says that without the 700,000 gallon tank, the city is having to depend on its wells to meet demand with no wat to store water for times of peak demand….such as a fire.
Gordon has been chlorinating its wter since the move to round-the-clock operations. Hlava says the tank has been studied repeatedly since the rupture, but that there’s still no word on when…or if…i can be repaired.
Hlava’s biggest concern…other than what to do in case of a major fire…is what to do should the electrical line serving the main wellfield go down.
Only one of the 5 wells there has a generator to let it keep running during an outage, although Hlava says Gordon’s old in-town well could be reactivated with a direct drive from a tractor.
