After three very competitive days in Pueblo the Chadron State Eagles finished third in the men’s competition and fifth in the women’s RMAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships last weekend.
Coach Brad Gamble says the effort he got from one of Chadron State’s local student-athletes, Jayme Nunes, was among the bright spots at the event.
CSC’s Con Marshall reported Nunes is the first woman from the school to place in the 10,000 meter run since the Eagles joined the RMAC in 1990. She finished third.
Freshman Demarcus Simpson continued a strong season with a long jump victory at 24-10, but what sets Simpson apart from other talented track-and-field stars is his desire to contribute any way he can to his team’s success according to Gamble.
And while Jazz Bozner wasn’t able to claim a 400 hurdles RMAC title, Coach Gamble says Bozner’s effort after a fall in the prelims showed his heart and made him a crowd favorite.
Gamble says this year’s teams defined themselves through hard work and finished the RMAC Outdoor Championships right about where they were projected in the pre-season.
