Free Kidney Disease Screening Scheduled for August 24 at Box Butte General Hospital

The Nebraska Kidney Association will offer a free kidney disease screening on August 24, at Box Butte General Hospital in Alliance.  This free screening starts at 7:00 a.m. for employees and 8:00 am to 10:00 am for the general public.   Anyone 18 years of age or older may participate but those with a history of high blood pressure and/or diabetes are encouraged to be tested.

The screening includes blood tests for signs of diabetes and kidney disease.  The tests will measure blood glucose levels, eGFR, creatinine and blood pressure.  Fasting is not a requirement before these tests.

Participants will be given results on site by the Nebraska Kidney Association.

The free health screening program is called Kidney Early Detection Screening (K-EDS) and is offered free by the Nebraska Kidney Association primarily for individuals at increased risk of developing kidney disease.

“One in nine Americans either suffers from kidney disease or is at risk for developing it,” according to Tim Neal, CEO of the Nebraska Kidney Association.  “Our goal with the K-EDS screening is to identify at-risk individuals and abate the growth of the disease or delay the need for dialysis.

Pre-registration for this event is not necessary.   Walk-ins are welcome, please be advised the screening is limited to first 100 people.

The mission of the Nebraska Kidney Association is to improve the lives of all Nebraskans through advocacy, education, early disease detection and patient service
