The First National Bank North Platte Chadron Juniors Post 12 Legion baseball team got its season off to a hot start Tuesday night, beating Douglas 14-0.
With the game tied heading in to the bottom of the 3rd, Chadrons Trevyn Waldron had a quality at bat and reached on an error. Jackson Dickerson followed sute and a few Douglas errors eventually led to a 2-0 Chadron lead.
The bottom of the 4th inning was when Chadron blew the game open as the Nationals plated 12 runs. A combination of hits, walks, and Douglas errors led to the big inning for the home team. Jayden Stack performed well on the mound for Chadron, pitching 5 innings of shut out baseball while striking out 8 Douglas hitters. Stack also went 1 for 2 at the plate with an RBI. Also for Chadron, Jake Bargen had 2 hits and Michael Giesler, Caston Stack, and Clay Madsen each had 1.
The Senior Nationals fell to Douglas seniors 6-2 in the nightcap. After taking a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 3rd, Douglas quickly tied the game in the 4th. Chadron would not score again, and the Douglas offense plated 4 runs in the top of the 5th to take control of the game.
Chance Bila started the game on the mound for Chadron and pitched well through 4 innings, allowing just 2 runs on 1 hit. Dylan Zeller pitched the final innings. The Nationals bats struggled vs. the pitching of Marvin Malone as Chadron only mustered 1 hit from Collin Deines.
Next action for the Nationals is in Scottsbluff of Thursday May 23. The juniors begin at 5 and the seniors to follow. The next home contest will be May 28 at 5 pm at Maurice Horse Field in Chadron.
