CHADRON – Five members of the Chadron State College track team have earned 6 berths at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field National Championships later this month.

Alyssa Norton, Sadie Waugh, Cody Hunt, Gavan Archibald and Karl McFarlane will compete May 23-25 at the Neta and Eddie DeRose ThunderBowl in Pueblo, Colo.

Hunt and McFarlane earned their spots by surpassing automatic qualifying marks while the others received invitations by being topping provisional marks and being in the top 20 on their events’ season-best list.

Norton, a junior from Rushville, made the list in both the shot put and discus. Her season best in the discus is 159-feet, 8-inches…putting her 10th on the list…while her top shot put mark is 46-2 ½, good for 20th on that list.

Waugh, a senior from Paxton, also made the field in the discus…even though her first competition wasn’t until the week before the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championships. She’s 18th on the list at 154-0, a throw that came in the last meet possible…the Mothers Day Last Chance at Colorado School of Mines.

Hunt is a 4-time All-American in the shot put…having placed both indoors and outdoors…who cracked the automatic qualifying distance in his first meet of the season. The  senior from Lingle, Wyo., has a season of 62-1 ¼, which ranks as the 3rd best toss in Division II this spring.

McFarlane and Archibald are both hurdlers from Jamaica. McFarlane, a junior and 3-time All-American from Montego Bay, is 4th on the 110-meter high hurdles list at 13.93.

Archibald, a sophomore from St. Ann, is in the 400-intermediate hurdles and making his first trip to the national meet. His best time of 52.67, 19th on the list, also came in the Colorado Mines Mother’s Day Last Chance meet.
