A father and son from eastern Nebraska are recovering from being accidentally shot in the face by a shotgun while dove hunting about 7:30 Sunday night near Lincoln at the Yankee Hill Wildlife Management Area,
Nebraska Game and Parks officials say 27-year-old Francisco Barbosa Almazan of Denton…13-miles southwest of Lincoln…and his 8-year-old son were hit by 23-year-old Arturo Garcia of Omaha, who was hunting in the same area and turned quickly to shoot at a dove but hit Almazan and his son instead.
Almazan was treated at a hospital and released while his son was held overnight for observation. A third member of their hunting party was not injured.
Nebraska Game and Parks Conservation officers and the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office responded to the accident, with the investigation into the incident ongoing.
Sunday was the first day of dove season, and Game and Parks reminds hunters to always be sure not only of their target, but also what lies beyond their target.
