IN THE NEWS: HOUSE MOVES TO MAINTAIN BAN ON TAXING INTERNET ACCESS
WASHINGTON (AP) — The House of Representatives has voted to keep Internet connections from being subject to taxes. The House has voted to make permanent a moratorium that keeps state and local governments from adding on the same kind of connection fees that you often find tacked on to telephone bills. The way the law stands now, the ban on new Internet connectivity taxes would expire November 1. The measure now goes on to the Senate.
IN THE NEWS: PROSECTORS BACK OFF ON VA. SEXTING CASE
MANASSAS, Va. (AP) — Prosecutors in Virginia have now abandoned on the idea of using photos to go after a 17-year-old teenager accused of sexting a 15-year-old girl who was his girlfriend at the time. At first prosecutors had gone to a judge to get a warrant to take pictures of the teen in an aroused state to compare them with photos the young man allegedly sent to the younger teen. That drew the ire of civil liberties advocates — and the public — once word of the plan got out.

CYBERSPACE (AP) — You never know for sure whether you’re going to make it through a day alive. But in this case, we know things won’t turn out well for Archie Andrews. For those who don’t remember the name, he’s the redheaded comic book icon from back in the day. He will lose his life in today’s installment of “Life With Archie,” a spin-off series featuring the grown up members of the Riverdale gang. Archie’s death by gunfire will end the online series.
IN STORES: SLINGBOX M1 AND SLING TV
FOSTER CITY, Calif. (AP) — There will soon be two new ways to place shift your TV watching. Sling Media is launching two new products.
One is called SlingTV and the other is the Slingbox M1. Sling TV is the same as the current top-of-the line model, the Slingbox 500. But it comes with new software designed to nudge you toward checking out new things to watch. But the main feature is that the Slingbox lets you watch what you get at home when you are on the go.
That means if you, for example, have a subscription to a sports package or premium channel, you can see that programming on your phone, tablet or PC. The other product is the M1, which is less expensive and focuses on streaming media to mobile devices or computers located away from home. The M1 is coming out on Sunday, with SlingTV due in stores later this summer.
