Hunt, who concluded his collegiate eligibility indoors a year ago, will throw the shot put on Sunday. He qualified for the indoor championships when he threw 59-5 ¼ at the Black Hills Open Meet in December while competing unattached.
He is the Chadron State record-holder in the event both indoors and outdoors at 61-4 ¼ indoors and 63-4 ¾ outdoors, both marks set last year.
A graduate of Lingle-Fort Laramie High School in Wyoming, Hunt has earned NCAA Division II All-American honors at national indoor meets twice and outdoors once. He will join the Eagles during the outdoor season later this month.
The entry list at the Indoor Championships ranges all the way from 16-year-old Mary Cain of New York who has reset many of the high school and junior records in distance races to numerous Olympic medalists. The latter includes Jeremy Wariner of Arlington, Texas, a 400-meter runner who has won three gold medals and one silver at the Olympics.
