CHADRON – The Chadron State College wrestling team will give a preview of coming attractions Thursday evening by holding its annual Red and White intrasquad dual in the Nelson Physical Activity Center. The action will begin at 6 o’clock.
Interim head coach Brett Hunter said 15 matches are scheduled. The Eagles will officially open the season on Saturday at the Cowboy Open Tournament hosted by the University of Wyoming. Twenty-nine CSC grapplers are slated to make the trip.
Hunter said he’s been pleased with the preseason. He believes the Eagles are on the rise and will be a competitive team.
The roster includes 10 lettermen, eight of whom were regulars most of last season.
The latter group includes Dustin Stodola at 125 pounds, Leando Arias at 141, C.J. Clark at 149, Bruce Zurek at 157, Bret Klopp at 174, Jordan Debus at 184, Chris Leak at 197 and Mike Hill at heavyweight.
Hunter said two others have been particularly impressive in practice. They are senior Perry McAfee at 133 pounds and redshirt freshman Dylan Fors at 165.
The Cowboy will be the first of six open tournaments for the Eagles. Hunter said these tourneys will test the Eagles and hopefully help them be ready when the RMAC schedule begins in January.
