CSC VB PLAYS TOUGH BUT STILL SWEPT BY #16 COLO MINES

CHADRON – Five Colorado School of Mines attackers had at least six kills as the No. 16-ranked Orediggers swept Chadron State 25-19, 25-21, 25-19 in a tightly played Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference match Saturday in Chadron.

Colorado Mines’ offense was balanced throughout the match, which featured 15 ties and 10 lead changes.

The Orediggers, now 11-4 overall and 5-1 in the conference, hit .186 as a team, while limiting the Eagles to .095.

Melanie Wannamaker paced Mines with a match-high 13 kills. Sarah Pekarek and Holly Hutchison each had eight, Jackie Stabell finished with seven and Laura Beckmann had six.

Chadron State, which falls to 3-12 overall and 1-5 in the RMAC, played the highly ranked Orediggers well but couldn’t put them away. The Eagles owned leads in each set, including a 6-point advantage in the third, but Mines’ service game – the Orediggers finished with five aces – proved to be the deciding factor.

Erika Roybal and Mallory Irvine had seven kills apiece to pace CSC and Mollie Jones added five kills and seven digs.

Both of Chadron State’s setters finished with double digit assists. Justine Ackie had 17, while Alyssa Bauer provided 10.

Kristina Harter had a match-high 20 digs.
