Chadron State College head volleyball coach Janel Baily has announced the Eagles’ 2013 schedule, a 29-match slate that includes 19 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matches and 10 non-conferences matches.
The Eagles went 5-25 in 2012 but claimed their first two conference wins since the 2010 season. Five seniors expended their eligibility, however, Chadron State returns eight letter winners from 2012 and eight more will join the roster in the fall.
The Eagles will kick-off their season by competing in two, four-match tournaments including the Nebraska-Kearney Tournament and the CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves Classic the first two weekends of the season.
The University of Nebraska-Kearney tourney provides the Eagles with a high competitive level right away as the Lopers finished the 2012 season ranked third in the county. Additionally, the Eagles will face Newman University, South Dakota Mines and William Jewell.
“Kearney is some great competition and we are excited see how we compare,” Baily said, “We are also excited about the diversity of our opponents at this first tournament.”
The following weekend at Pueblo, the Eagles will face Southwest Oklahoma State, Lindenwood, Southwest Baptist and William Jewell.
After the eight-match opening stretch, Chadron State launches into its RMAC home opening weekend Sept. 20-21 against Metro State and Regis University.
In addition to the two home-openers, the Eagles host nine more matches and travel to the other 10 matches throughout the season.
“This year we have a lighter load with our travel schedule, which will be nice,” Baily said.
The top eight teams qualify for the RMAC Championships set for November 19-23.
