COUPLE DONATES ACCOUNT OF OREGON TRAIL JOURNEY

Oregon TrailSCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (AP) — An Arizona couple is donating a hand-written, first-hand account of a journey on the Oregon Trail to the Scotts Bluff National Monument.

KNEB radio reports that Robert and Maxine Palm decided to donate the rare documents, believed to date to the 1890s.

Robert Palm says the account describes the Denney family’s journey on the Oregon Trail in the 1850s. They later settled near Portland, Oregon.

Palm says the couple who led the trip were his great-great-grandparents. The account was written by their youngest daughter.

Palm says he decided to donate the documents to the national monument because he and his wife travel through Nebraska when driving from their home in Arizona to Minnesota.

The account will be placed on display at the monument visitors’ center this summer.
