BRANTLEY GILBERT TO BE AT INDY 500 AND SPRINT CUP
UNDATED (AP) — Brantley Gilbert jokes that he thinks his record label and management are out to kill him. And if you saw his schedule for Memorial Day weekend, you might think he’s serious. The country music star will be attending the Indianapolis 500 race on May 25 — then hop a flight in Charlotte to perform for the Sprint Cup race that night. The Indy appearance is part of the sponsorship of 19-year-old Sage Karam, whose car has Gilbert’s image plastered on it. The Charlotte gig is to do a pre-race concert. He will also have his likeness on the Chevy driven by Jamie McMurray for the Sprint Cup race.
SCOTTY McCREERY ROBBED
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Scotty McCreery says it was “a very scary night” when he was the victim of a home invasion near the campus of North Carolina State University early yesterday. McCreery is a student at NC State and was at the apartment visiting friends. McCreery says he and his friends are safe and he’ll share more later, but he doesn’t want to hinder the investigation.
CMT MUSIC AWARD NOMINATIONS
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Working together may not be the best for competition, but it’s great for nominations. Just ask Miranda Lambert. She has the most nominations headed into the Country Music Television awards — in part because of her work with others. Among her nods are for teaming up with husband Blake Shelton, as well as her girl group Pistol Annies and fellow country music star Keith Urban. Lambert is also up for two individual awards, as well as two with her girl group and two more with Urban. Other multiple nominations go to Luke Bryan and Florida Georgia Line with five nominations. Keith Urban and Taylor Swift each have four. The awards ceremony will be June 4 in Nashville.
”THE VOICE” TOP EIGHT PERFORM
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Adam Levine says no one has ever heard Lil Wayne the way “The Voice” contestant Christina Grimmie did it last night. She did a soaring ballad version of “How To Love.” Cat Perkins on Team Adam also tried something different by doing a metal version of “Get Lucky.” Levine’s third team member, Delvin Choice, broke down in tears after doing “I Believe I Can Fly.” After hearing Sisaundra Lewis sing “River Deep, Mountain High,” Shakira said if Lewis opened a school, all four coaches would enroll. Blake Shelton told Josh Kaufman his performance of “I Can’t Make You Love Me” had magic. Shakira said Kristen Merlin’s singing was “transcendent” and Audra McLaughlin’s singing was “effortless.” Shakira told Jake Worthington he was so good he had her air-drumming. Three contestants will be eliminated tonight.
