A former Morrill County rancher convicted in of abusing horses is back in jail.

The Scottsbluff Star-Herald reports Goshen County, Wyoming, authorities arrested 46-year-old Jason Meduna for parole violation.

 Meduna was convicted in January, 2010 on 145 counts of cruel neglect of an animal and ordered not to possess any animals for a period of 30 years. However, he had been found by a probation official to be in possession of animals, including horses.

Capt. Bryan Morehouse, of the Goshen County Sheriff’s Department told The Star-Herald that “No allegations of abuse had been made, but, he did have animals, including horses, in his possession.”

 Meduna had been living near Lingle, under the alias “Jesse Raiter.” Morehouse said that he believed Meduna had been living at his current location for less than a year.

 In April 2009, Morrill County authorities had arrested Meduna after authorities serving a search warrant found 211 neglected horses, burros, mules, foals and a pony at Meduna’s 3-Strikes Ranch outh of Alliance. Authorities found a total of 74 horses and burros dead at the ranch.

 During sentencing in Meduna’s case, Judge Leo Dobrovolny ordered that Meduna be prohibited from possessing animals as part of his sentence for 30 years. Meduna had appealed the ruling, but the Nebraska Court of Appeals upheld the condition.

 Meduna served about 19 months in prison before being released on discretionary parole.
