In an effort to assist residents in their final fall cleanup, an additional collection of yard waste containers will take place the week of November 28. Blue roll out containers will be collected on Wednesday, November 30.
Decorated trees and wreaths for the Christmas Tree and Wreath Festival should be returned to the museum by noon on Monday, November 21.
The 21 st annual Christmas Tree and Wreath Festival will be held November 26 through December 3 at the Knight Museum and Sandhills Center. This year’s festival will feature approximately 100 two foot trees and twenty-two inch wreaths all decorated by local individuals and businesses. The trees and wreaths are available for purchase by using a bid process in a week long silent auction. Bids will be taken until 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 3. The hours of the festival are 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, November 26; 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, November 27; 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, November 28 through Friday, December 2 and 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, December 3 when the silent auction concludes. A complete list of entertainment is available on the City webpage. Voting jars will be available for your favorite tree and wreath and refreshments will be served.
The Friends of the Library Winter Book sale will be held Thursday, December 1 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the basement of the Alliance Public Library. Books will be sold for $5.00 per bag or .50 cents for hardbacks and .25 cents for paperbacks.
Box Butte Avenue will be closed from 9 th Street to 3 rd Street on Tuesday, November 29 beginning at 5:00 p.m. for the Christmas parade. The parade will end at 4 th Street and Santa will proceed to the Santa House in the Box Butte Avenue Mini Park.
Box Butte County RSVP will be setting up “Trees of Love” at Hardware Hank’s in Alliance and Bank of the West in Hemingford today. You are invited to include a nursing home resident in your Christmas gift giving this year by selecting an ornament from the trees with a gift suggestion on it. The tree at Hardware Hank’s will include suggestions for 90 residents at Highland Park and Good Samaritan Care Centers. The tree at Bank of the West in Hemingford will have gift suggestions for 40 residents of Hemingford Community Care Center. Highland Park gifts should be left at Hardware Hank’s by Friday, December 9. Good Samaritan gifts should be left at Hardware Hank’s by Friday, December 16. Hemingford Community Care Center gifts may be taken to the Care Center by Thursday, December 15.
The Sallows Allies and Sallows Foundation will conduct a regular meeting on Wednesday, November 30 at 7:00 p.m. at the Sallows Military Museum located at 1101 Niobrara Avenue. The meeting is open to the public.
All City of Alliance offices will be closed Thursday, November 24 and Friday, November 25 for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Public Transit will be closed Thursday, November 24 and Friday, November 25 for the Thanksgiving holiday but will provide service on Sunday, November 27. Reservations for Sunday service must be made prior to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 23.
The Alliance Public Library will be closed Thursday, November 24 through Saturday, November 26. Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, there will be no Story Time, Lego Club, Youth Book Club or Friday Fun Day. Lego Club will meet Monday, November 28 and Thursday, December 1 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. The Youth Book Club will meet Tuesday, November 29 at 3:45 p.m. to discuss, “The House without a Christmas Tree.” Story Time will resume on Tuesday, November 29 at 10:00 a.m. and Thursday, December 1 at 1:00 p.m.
The Alliance Landfill will be closed November 24 and 25. They will be open 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 26.
Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, steel refuse containers will be emptied on Monday, November 21 with no second dump on Thursday, November 24. Collection schedules for roll out containers will not change.
Kids are invited to get ready for the holidays at Friday Fun Days at the Alliance Public Library any time between 2:30 and 4:30 p.m. Plans include: upcyled craft for a gift on December 2; gift wrap and gift box making December 9 and holiday movies and ornament and snowflake craft project December 16.
The Knight Museum and Sandhills Center will be closed November 24 and 25. They will be open 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 26.

Please remember when a Snow Emergency is declared, residents living on an Emergency Snow Route are required to remove their vehicles from the street.
Enrollment for the CodeRED Emergency Notification system is available on the City webpage. Simply click on the CodeRED Weather Warning box and you will be redirected to the enrollment site. The system will notify residents of snow emergency declarations, emergency situations, critical community alerts as well as severe weather warnings.
The Senior Crafters will be holding a Craft Sale on Friday, December 2 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, December 3 from 9:00 a.m. to noon at the Senior Center located at 212 Yellowstone.
The public restrooms at Laing Lake and Central Park are closed for the season in preparation for freezing temperatures.
