Chadron State Opponent 2-Minute Drill: Colorado Mesa

The college football season is nearing and we’re continuing our look forward at the RMAC teams on CSC’s schedule.  Today we’re checking in with Colorado Mesa in our 2-minute drill series with quick facts about the match-up, last year’s game with CSC, and hearing thoughts from coaches and players.

Opponent: Colorado Mesa
Game Day: Week 4– Saturday, September 26 (Family Day)
Location: Chadron, NE
Kickoff: Noon

Last Year’s Record: 6-5
Last Year vs. CSC: Chadron State 24, Colorado Mesa 13

A touchdown run from Cody Paul in the fourth quarter finally gave Chadron State enough comfort to pull away and win at Colorado Meda 24-13 in 2014.  With a 17-13 lead, Paul went in from six yards out to give the Eagles a two possession lead and key road win in conference.  Neither team was able to scorch the stat book – each was held under 400 yards of total offense – and Chadron State utilized four sacks and nine tackles-for-loss to keep Mesa from doing much on offense.

Mesa Head Coach Russ Martin says his team returns a lot of playing experience, despite not returning many seniors.

Martin thought he was all set on a starting quarterback after spring ball but a late transfer is making the competition for signal caller heated as fall camp nears.

Games are won up front in Martin’s coaching philosophy, and he’s returning solid offensive lineman including seniors Nick Leonard and Zeth Ramsey, both of whom were all-conference honorable mention a year ago.

Martin’s defensive returners include one of the top CB’s in Division II football.

Rivas speaks about his phenomenal freshman year in the secondary and what’s to come this year.
