CHADRON POOL GROUP TO HAVE INFO BOOTHS DURING FUR TRADE DAYS

Chadron pool proposal

Chadron’s SPEEDO pool committee is taking advantage of the crowds and activities of this weekend’s Fur Trade Days to set up information booths on the proposal to enclose the city swimming pool.

SPEEDO member Sandy Roes says the first booth will be tomorrow evening from 6-9:00 next to the American Legion at the first Bands on Bordeaux concert, while the second will be on the Courthouse lawn on after the Fur Trade Days Parade from 11::-3:00.

SPEEDO chairman Dr Terry Owen says visitors coming to the booths can look at the materials on the own, or they can ask questions of the volunteers who will be on hand.

SPEEDO will also have a booth with the same format for the second Bands on Bordeaux concert next Thursday, the 17th.

SPEEDO took up the pool enclosure idea in late 2012 and work most of last year with Burback Aquatics, one of the top pool consultants in the country, on a feasibility study.

After going through 15 drafts, some with projects costing as much as $12-million dollars, they brought the city council a $5.9-million proposal last month that would be funded with a half-cent sales tax, $1.5-million in expected grants, and a $500,000 capital campaign.

SPEEDO member Corey Pourier says the community response to the general idea of the project has been positive.

The plan got a cool reception from the city council, but members did give SPEEDO  a month to work on grants and the capital campign. They’re tentatively scheduled to return to the council on the 21st, when the council members could decide whether to send a sale tax proposal to the voters in November.
