CHADRON PD ARREST WOMAN FOR FAILING TO REGISTER AS A SEX OFFENDER

Tammy UnderbergA visit to the lobby of the Chadron police station over a landlord dispute proved to be a bad idea for one woman.

During her visit with an officer, 40-year old Tammy Underberg told him she was a registered sex offender in South Dakota and had been living in Chadron for about 6 weeks.

That led to a check of her status, which in turn led to her arrest on a charge of failing to register with local authorities as a sex offender. She was released after booking at the Dawes County jail.

Underberg must register as a sex offender for her 2011 conviction on a charge of aggravated incest involving a 16-year old boy when she was 37.

Chadron police officer Shane Sanders says the department actively enforces the sex offender registration laws and makes quarterly checks on all registered sex offenders living in Chadron to make sure they are in compliance.

Officer Sanders says anyone can visit the Nebraska State Patrol website at https://sor.nebraska.gov and search for registered sex offenders by name, location, or region…adding that anyone with information on a possible violation of that or any law can contact local law enforcement.

Such tips may also be made anonymously by calling the Dawes County Crime Stoppers hotline at 308-432-0519. Tips leading to convictions may also be eligible for a reward of up to $1000.
