
The Chadron High boys and girls basketball teams traveled to Rapid City Saturday night to meet Douglas High on the Ellsworth Aire Force Base and came away with a split decision. The Cardinal girls won going away 79-35 while the boys lost a close game 50-48.
The girls game never was in doubt as Chadron jumped out to a 19-6 lead after the first quarter, then outscored Douglas 22-4 in the second period for a 41-10 halftime lead.
The Lady Cardinals were led by Peyton Hinn with18 points. Ashlea Kerr had 11 and Briley Hannaford added 10 points as Chadron improved to 16-1 on the year.

The boys game was a back-and-forth affair that was tight throughout. It was tied at the end of the first quarter 9-9, but Chadron had narrow leads of 17-13 at the half and 32-29 going into the fourth quarter before Douglas came back to grab the win.
The difference came at the foul line with Douglas holding off the Cardinals by making key free throws down the stretch as they went 17-18 on the night.
The Patriots were led in scoring by Matt Vinson with 25 points, but Chadron’s Spencer Eliason claimed game honors with 26.
Both Chadron teams are back in action Tuesday night as they host Alliance
