Chadron High School senior Kodi Baumann took first place with a vocal solo, “Heaven” in the senior division of the Chadron Kiwanis Club’s annual Stars of Tomorrow contest on Sunday.
There were 22 entries in the 4 age divisions, making this one of the largest fields in the many years the Chadron Kiwanians have sponsored the Stars of Tomorrow. The judges said the high quality of the entries also made it difficult to select the trophy winners.
Baumann, a long-time Stars of Tomorrow contestant, receives $150 from the club and advances to the Rocky Mountain District competition in Loveland, Colo., later this month on Sunday the 28th.
Two more Chadron High students, Phil Duncan, who played a drum solo, and Tristan Moore, who sang and played his guitar, placed 2nd and 3rd, respectively, in the senior division.
Dancers earned all 3 of the trophies awarded in Division I, kindergarten through 3rd grade. Finishing 1st was solo dancer Gracie Jones, followed by the duo of Claire Fox and Jacie Coupens, then another soloist…Alyssa Snyder. All are from Chadron.
Joshua Fernau of Chadron sang “God Bless the USA” to win Division II, 4th-6th grade. Josie Stewart, also of Chadron, was second with her vocal solo “Love Me,” and 3rd place went to Jocelyn Varvel of Hay Springs for her solo, “It’s a Hard Knock Life.”
Division III, 7th-9th grade, was the largest with 9 entries. The winner was Brooklyn Stack of Chadron, who sang a medley of tunes from “Grease.” Dancers Pamela Fisher and Aubree Noble, both of Chadron, tied for 3rd
