The Chadron Basketball teams hosted Alliance on Tuesday night and earned a split decision. The Lady Cardinals won 69-47, but the Cardinal Boys came up just short in a heartbreaker 47-43.

The girls’ game was close for three quarters. Chadron led by just 4 after the first quarter 12-8, and it was still just a 6 point game at the half 28-22. The Lady Cardinals pushed it to 45-37, then dominated the fourth quarter 24-10 for a 22 point win.

Peyton Hinn had 20 points to lead Chadron, while Ashlea Kerr added 18. Alliance also had two players in double figures, Morgan Anthony with 11 and Shae Brennan with 10.

In the boys game,  the Cardinals and Bulldogs traded scores the whole night. Alliance led 9-7 after one period, Chadron was on top at the half 16-12, and the  Bulldogs were back in the lead at  26-25 going into the fourth quarter…which saw each team nearly double its point total.

The teams traded the lead several times in the final period, but Alliance took the lead for good in the final 30-seconds and hit key shots to hold on for the 47-43 victory.

Isaac Burnham accounted for more than 40% of Alliance’s scoring, ending with 20 points. Spencer Eliason scored 12 to lead Chadron.

Chadron hosts St. Thomas More of Rapid City on Friday night. The Lady Cavaliers handed the Chadron girls their only loss last month in Rapid City and are one of  South Dakota’s top teams in Class A. They also have just one loss this season.
