On Monday, February 11th, we started sharing stories about how people like you and me made a commitment to getting in shape and improving their quality of life. Many of us make fitness resolutions at the start of the new year, but without a plan, it is easy to get side tracked and fall back into old routines. We hope some of these success stories will help you stay motivated and strive to reach your own fitness goals.

For our final story of the week, we want to spotlight Shaun H.

On January 10th, Shaun hit a huge milestone: he lost TWO HUNDRED pounds and he did it ahead of his goal!

Check out his story in his own words below.

My life before I began losing weight was what I figured was a typical American life. I worked, supported my family, came home, enjoyed the rest of my day watching tv, eating dinner and getting up and doing it all over again. My days off consisted of watching tv or staying on the computer all day, little to no activity at all. Walking to bed was the extent of my physical activity. My “a-ha moment” was Thanksgiving day 2009. We were at a friend’s house getting ready for dinner and I was outside with the kids. They said, “Daddy come play with us,” and I said ok. About 10 minutes in, I was exhausted and I said, “Daddy’s gotta sit down.” The look on my kids’ faces broke me.

Then my wife said, “I love you, but you’ve got to do something or you’re going to die.”

SOMETHING HAD TO CHANGE!!!!! The very next day, I went to the first gym I found and dropped $400 to sign up, because that’s where you go when you think weight loss, right? Or, so I thought. I trained at the gym for about a year, I bought every fat burner, every weight loss pill or diet thing that I read or heard that worked. You know what I ended up with? An empty pocket book and little to no results. I got frustrated so I just continued to bust my hump harder. I was so focused on the gym that I didn’t realize I was driving my family away. I would work 14 hours a day and then hit the gym 2 hours a day, so as you can calculate I was never home. My wife was missing me, as well as my kids. They were always asking, “Why is daddy never home”?

Heart breaking…

Well, I knew I needed to continue on or I was not going to be around to love the people that love me, or I would even end up being a walking medical nightmare- I was borderline diabetic and had high blood pressure.

One day God put a man in my path and he introduced me to Beachbody and Shakeology. I thought it was just another shake and some crappy home DVD program (little did I know what I was talking about). I ordered Shakeology and a program called Les Mills Pump. My wife was not into fitness, but she supported me, and when I told her no more gym she was overjoyed. She decided to take the 90 day journey with me to support me and to have something to do as a couple.

We threw out our bad foods and went and bought good foods and replaced 1 meal a day with Shakeology. Little did we know how powerful Shakeology was. After completing the 90 days of Pump we ended up with a combined 29 inch and 54 lbs lost….AMAZING!!! Next up was P90X (to see what the hype was about). We completed it with some amazing results as well. I also completed two rounds of Body Beast, and am currently in my 4th week of Les Mills COMBAT. God had answered our prayers. I still get to work on my health and my wife and kids get to do it with me. Teaching our kids about good nutrition and exercise at their age is priceless… our 4 year old daughter is already a fitness nut and loves TurboFire. 

To make a long story short… I am down 200.2 lbs. and 14 inches from my waist alone, no longer pre-diabetic and my blood pressure is 115/55 and steady. To top it off, I feel amazing – I will be around a lot longer for my family.

Four Class B state champions highlight the 28 medals won by Panhandle wrestlers at the state tournament in Omaha.  Panhandle wrestlers also claimed 6 thirds, 4 fourths, 6 fifths, and 7 sixths.

The highest team finishes were in Class B, where Scottsbluff was the runner-up behind Omaha Skutt 146.5 to 119, Alliance was 4th..2.5 points behind Plattsmouth…and Chadron was 12th. The highest team finish in Class C was Mitchell at 15th, while Bayard was 13th in Class D.

Leading the way among the champions was Scottsbluff junior Colton Adams, who won his 3rd title at 3 different weight classes with a 9-3 decision at 132. Adams also set a state record with his 53rd victory of the season, ending 53-1.

Sophomore teammate Keegan Hessler finished the year 50-3 by capturing the 120-pound title with a 5-3 decision, and Alliance senior Tyson Dowler celebrated an undefeated season by winning the 152-pound crown with a 5-4 victory.

The Panhandle’s fourth champion was Chadron senior Colby Riesen, who took the 160-pound title with a pin after having finished 6th at 145 as a sophomore and 3rd last year at 160.

Only one wrestler from the region who made the finals failed to win, as 106-pound sophomore Juan Delacruz of Scottsbluff fell 10-4 and had to settle for 2nd.

Class B accounted for 5 of the third places.  Sophomore Baily Hort of Gering did it with a pin at 113, junior Devin Ushio of Alliance beat Scottsbluff sophomore Joseph Flores-Ybarra 5-4 in a Panhandle battle at 120, Alliance sophomore Walker Johnson took another 5-4 win at 126, still another sophomore, Sabian Harsh of Scottsbluff, was a 9-4 winner at 145, and Sidney senior Tanner Wintholz, headed to Chadron State to play football, claimed 3rd at 195 with a pin.

Finishing 4th besides Flores-Ybarra was senior Dawson Johnson of Alliance at 160, while Scottsbluff junior Andrew Aratani claimed 5th at 285.

The Panhandle’s 6th place finishers included another Alliance senior, Tyler Smith at 138, Chadron sophomore Willy Cogdill at 152, and senior Andrew Aratani of Scottsbluff at 285

Chadron senior Chance Bila…who came to state undefeated…wound up 6th at 170 after being injured in the championship semifinals and not able to wrestle in the consolations.

The highest Class C placer was Bridgeport junior Brandon Nichols at 138, while the only 3 other placers were all from Mitchell and all finished 5th…senior Brendan Swanson at 170 and freshmen  Drew Gilliland and Braydon Wiedeman at 106 and 182 respectively.

The 3rd place match at 220 in Class D was another Panhandle battle as junior Steve Horrocks of Hay Springs topped Banner County senior David Gifford 3-0. ..leaving Gifford 4th.

The region had a pair of 5th place finishers in Garden County senior Makay Beck at 152 and Bayard junior Tanner Willey at 195, and a trio in 6th place…senior CJ Sidrow of Morrill at 106, Hay Springs junior Joey Johnson at 132, and  senior Allen Denton of Bayard at 160.

Did you make a New Year’s resolution this year? Many of us set a goal to get in shape after the holidays, but without a plan and support, it is easy to give-up after before you reach your goal.

It is already mid-February and to help you stay motivated, we have been sharing real life success stories. Yesterday, we heard from Tina, a police officer, who took the Insanity Challenge and had incredible results. She lost over 17 lbs and 9 1/2 inches off of her entire body in just 60 days.

Today we are going to hear from Nicole. She had grown up sitting out during gym class and was later diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome and high cholesterol. She became unhappy with herself and lived in constant discomfort!

When a friend introduced her to Shakeology, Brazil Butt Lift and P90X, she transformed her whole life. Read more about her story below!

I was very depressed and it was just uncomfortable to be me. Always being in pain was my life. I had been diagnosed with IBS after having issues since I was 16, and also diagnosed with high cholesterol. I had previously worked in highly physical jobs, but after I started my office job, I became very unhealthy. There were days I would spend doubled over with pain. Then I gained 30 lbs. I was miserable.

I had known I needed to make changes and I even knew what they were, but I just didn’t do it. Being introduced to Shakeology and Beachbody gave me the support and inspiration to make the changes – I already knew what I needed to do! Shakeology was groundbreaking for my journey. My favorite workout is Bum Bum, just because it was very challenging at first, however I stuck with it and got all the moves down!!I chose Brazil Butt Lift first because I thought it looked fun and easy to follow, then I joined a P90X challenge group. I have come back to BBL several times because it is so enjoyable and effective!

Dropping over 30 lbs and two full dress sizes is just amazing on top of feeling healthy. I am more energized, and ready to challenge myself in all areas of life. I had issues as a little girl with my muscle and bone growth that resulted in me sitting out of gym class quite a bit. That stuck with me and I grew up thinking I was not “athletic.” I have finally broken that mold and am teaching myself to run. The best part? I’m actually enjoying it!

I have since completed another round of BBL and still use it for a “fun” workout. BBL taught me working out could actually be FUN, and P90X showed me I COULD be an athlete! I am so thankful for all of these Beachbody programs; they are my way of life now! Shakeology and my fitness programs have helped my IBS and my overall cholesterol dropped more than 20 points.  

I may have only lost 30 pounds, but I’ve dropped 1 million pounds of dead weight off my mind!
