CHARLIE SHEEN IS GOING TO BE A GRANDFATHER

NEW YORK (AP) – Are you ready for Grandpa Charlie? Charlie Sheen tells David Letterman he’ll soon be a grandfather. Sheen says his daughter Cassandra is pregnant. He told Letterman last night, “She’s like married, go figure that one out.” Sheen says with him going to be a grandfather, “it’s like the world’s going to crack in half.” Sheen’s FX series “Anger Management” returns Thursday night.

NEW DETAILS IN NATALIE WOOD DROWINING DEATH

LOS ANGELES (AP) – New details are emerging about Natalie Wood’s revised death certificate. The L-A County sheriff’s department is releasing a coroner’s report on the actress’s death more than 30 years ago. The 10-page document says there were unexplained bruises and scratches on Wood’s face and arms. The report says the injuries could have occurred before Wood ended up in the water off Catalina Island. The report led officials to change Wood’s death certificate last year from a drowning to “drowning and other undetermined factors.” The sheriff’s department says the investigation into Wood’s death is ongoing.

IT’S OFFICIAL: BRITNEY (AND L.A. REID) OUT AT “X FACTOR”

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Britney Spears confirms that she’s leaving “The X Factor” after only one season. She says it was a “difficult decision.” She says she had a great time, but she wants to get back into the studio to record. Spears was paid a reported $15 million with the hope that she’d help boost the ratings. But they went down instead. L.A. Reid had said earlier that he was also leaving. Demi Lovato is expected to return along with Simon Cowell and the new judges.

BOX OFFICE: “ZERO DARK THIRTY” EDGES OUT “A HAUNTED HOUSE”

LOS ANGELES (AP) – It’s a bright start for “Zero Dark Thirty.” The drama about the hunt for Osama bin Laden takes the number-one spot at the nation’s theaters. Zero Dark Thirty brings in 24 million dollars, as it goes into nationwide release. The horror parody “A Haunted House” opens in second with about 19 mil. “Gangster Squad” has a third-place opening this weekend.

‘ARGO’, ‘LES MIZ’, ‘HOMELAND’ CLEAN UP AT GOLDEN GLOBES

BEVERLY HILLS (AP) – Ben Affleck won’t be repeating as a best director winner at the Oscars. Affleck’s Iranian hostage drama “Argo” won the Golden Globe for best dramatic film last night. Affleck also wins for best director. But he’s not nominated in the director category for an Academy Award. Affleck says he’s OK with that. He says he’s happy they’ve been nominated for a total of seven Oscars. “Lincoln” went in leading the Globes with seven nominations but wins only one award, best actor for Daniel Day-Lewis. “Zero Dark Thirty” star Jessica Chastain wins the Globe for dramatic actress.

“Les Miserables” takes home three Golden Globe awards. It wins for best musical or comedy. Co-stars Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway also win acting honors for their roles. Jackman is battling the flu. But he told the crowd he feels great after winning his Globe. Hathaway has an unusual use for her trophy. She says she has a “lovely blunt object” to use “as a weapon against self-doubt.”

“Homeland” is the big TV drama winner at the Golden Globe awards. It wins for best TV drama, for the second-straight year. Stars Damian Lewis and Claire Danes win the acting honors. It’s the fourth Globe for Danes since she was a teenager and she says the awards have been very good to her. HBO’s movie about Sarah Palin’s 2008 vice presidential campaign, “Game Change,” picks up three Globes. One of those awards went to Julianne Moore, who played Palin.

HBO’s “Girls” picked up two Golden Globe awards for best comedy. Show creator Lena Dunham wins best comic actress, beating out nominees Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, who also hosted last night’s ceremony. Don Cheadle picks up the best comedy actor award for his Showtime series, “House of Lies.” All the commercial networks were snubbed at the awards.

MISS WYOMING THIRD RUNNER-UP AT MISS AMERICA

Las Vegas, Nevada — Miss New York, Mallory Hytes Hagan, was crowned 2013 Miss America Saturday night at Planet Hollywood.   Miss Wyoming, Lexie Madden (at left), a native of Torrington, was third runner-up.

Fourth runner-up: Miss Iowa Mariah Cary

Third runner-up: Miss Wyoming Lexie Madden

Second runner-up: Miss Oklahoma Alicia Clifton

Runner-up: Miss South Carolina Ali Rogers

Miss America is Miss New York Mallory Hytes Hagan

The 23-year-old Hagan’s hometown is Brooklyn and she attended the Fashion Institute of Technology. Her platform issue is child sexual abuse prevention and she plans to obtain a degree in cosmetics and fragrance marketing, according to her bio, with an eye toward a career in global cosmetics marketing. She was tops with the judges in the swimsuit competition during Saturday night’s show, and she performed a tap dance to James Brown’s Get Up Offa That Thing.   Among the prizes awarded to Miss America is a $50,000 college scholarship.

On January eleventh, 1963, the Whisky A-Go-Go club opened on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles. The Doors are among the bands that got their start there.

In 1969, Jethro Tull’s debut album, “This Was,” was released.

In 1984, Michael Jackson was nominated for a dozen Grammy Awards. At the time, his “Thriller” album was becoming the best-selling album of all time. Jackson went on to win eight Grammys.

In 1992, Paul Simon became the first international star to perform in South Africa following the end of the United Nations cultural boycott. Simon opened a concert tour in Johannesburg.

In 1993, singer Jesse James Dupree of the band Jackyl was arrested for mooning an audience in Cincinnati. The band was touring with Damn Yankees, who also had some trouble. Damn Yankees’ guitarist Ted Nugent shot a flaming arrow, which was a violation of Cincinnati’s fire code. Dupree was released on bond. Nugent paid a fine.

In 2000, Gary Glitter was freed from prison after serving half of a four-month sentence for downloading pornographic pictures of children.

Also in 2000, authorities at an airport in Hawaii say they found a half-ounce of marijuana in Whitney Houston’s bag. She caught her flight before she could be arrested.

JUSTIN BIEBER’S BODYGUARD FILES LAWSUIT AGAINST HIM

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Justin Bieber’s former bodyguard is suing him for unpaid overtime and for punching him in the chest. Moshe Benabou’s lawsuit claims Bieber berated him and repeatedly punched him after they disagreed on how to handle a member of Bieber’s entourage.

Benabou says after he walked away, Bieber fired him. Benabou says he was mistakenly told he was not entitled to overtime, even though he worked 14 to 18 hour days for a year and a half.

Benabou is seeking unspecified damages for the assault and battery claims and more than $420,000 for unpaid overtime, vacation and other benefits. Bieber’s publicist did not return requests for comment.

JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE HINTS AT NEW MUSIC

UNDATED (AP) — Justin Timberlake is teasing that new music may be on the way. Timberlake’s site plays a video of him walking through the halls of a studio. Timberlake says in a voiceover he’s obsessive about his music and doesn’t want to put out anything he doesn’t love.

He says he can’t “physically torture” himself that much year after year — but the video ends with him walking into the studio in front of a microphone and saying, “I’m ready.” A clock then counts down to Monday at midnight, when presumably Timberlake will make an announcement.

ADELE WILL APPEAR AT GOLDEN GLOBES

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) — This weekend, Adele will do her first public appearance since having her baby.

She will appear at Sunday’s Golden Globes. Adele is nominated for best original song for the theme song from “Skyfall.” Adele had her first child in October.
