COUNTRY STARS SET FOR COUNTRY MUSIC CRUISE

Country CruiseFT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — It’s a cruise that’s a country music fan’s dream. The Country Music Cruise will feature concerts by Vince Gill, Kenny Rogers, Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers, Patty Loveless, Jo Dee Messina, Ronnie Milsap and Restless Heart.

Those are just the headliners. Other performers include Andy Griggs, Wade Hayes, Ty Herndon, Jamie O’Neal, The Warren Brothers and Bryan White, with Chuck Mead from BR549 playing poolside daily.

The cruise runs from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to Grand Turk, San Juan, Philipsburg and Half Moon Cay next January 19 through 26. Details are at www.CountryMusicCruise.com.

FUN. LEARN FROM COLDPLAY AND U2

Spotify Knocks It Out Of The Park

DETROIT (AP) – Singer Nate Ruess (ROOS) of fun. has been studying Coldplay and U2 to figure out how they put their set lists together. Ruess says he spent his monthlong vacation figuring out which new songs to play. He says he got heavy into Coldplay and U2 and how they choose songs and do light shows. Ruess says his favorite thing about success is that fun. can play bigger venues and use bigger production. He says they now employ Coldplay’s lighting director.

MORE GRAMMY PERFORMERS ANNOUNCED

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (AP) – Jack White, Carrie Underwood and The Lumineers have been added as performers on the Grammys. Dierks  Bentley and Miranda Lambert will do a performance together. So will Elton John and Ed Sheeran. Previously announced performers include fun., The Black Keys, Mumford and Sons, Rihanna and Taylor Swift. The Grammys are February 10.

MATT DAMON KIDNAPS JIMMY KIMMEL

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Matt Damon got his revenge last night. Damon’s been the butt of Jimmy Kimmel’s running gag. At the end of each show, Kimmel jokes they’ve run out time to bring Damon on as guest. Last night’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” began with a bit that had Damon kidnapping Kimmel, gaging him with a tie and duct-taping Kimmel to a desk chair. Kimmel was rolled out on stage as Damon hosted the show. A host of stars stopped by, including Nicole Kidman, who said they would never appear for Kimmel. Even Kimmel’s ex-girlfriend Sarah Silverman was on. The show ended with Damon saying they had run out time for Kimmel to say anything.

WILLIE NELSON PLANS NEW ALBUM

NEW YORK (AP) — Willie Nelson will turn 80 in April and he will mark that with a new studio album. “Let’s Face The Music  And Dance” will feature Nelson’s take on pop, rock, jazz and country classics.

He puts his spin on Carl Perkins’ “Matchbox,” as well as “Twilight Time,” ”I Can’t Give You Anything But Love” and “South of the Border.” He also remakes himself: he does a new version of his 1989 song “Is The Better Part Over.” ”Let’s Face The Music And Dance” will come out April 16.

LEE GREENWOOD MARKS 30 YEARS OF “GOD BLESS THE U.S.A.”

Lee GreenwoodNASHVILLE (AP) — This year is a special one for Lee Greenwood. He’s marking the 30th anniversary of “God Bless The U.S.A.” Greenwood wrote the song in 1983 in response to Russian authorities mistaking a Korean jet on its way from New York to Seoul for a spy plane and shooting it down with 269 passengers on board.

Since then, it’s become an anthem during the Gulf War, after 9/11, during the Iraq War and after Hurricane Katrina. Greenwood says the song came so easily, it nearly wrote itself.

TIM McGRAW CONCERT SPECIAL PLANNED

NASHVILLE (AP) — Tim McGraw will be the focus of an Academy of Country Music  concert special. “ACM Presents: Tim McGraw’s Superstar Summer Night” will be recorded April 8, the day after the ACM Awards.

It will be an all-star concert but who those stars are have not yet been announced. It will air later on CBS, with proceeds going to the ACM Lifting Lives charity. McGraw will release an album called “Two Lanes of Freedom” on February 5.

CHELY WRIGHT IS GOING TO BE A MOM

NASHVILLE (AP) — Chely Wright is expecting identical twins. Wright and her wife, Lauren Blitzer-Wright, announced the news on the Howard Bragman YouTube show “Gwissues.” Wright is due in July. Wright says she’s been suffering morning sickness, only in her case, it’s in the evening.
