NASHVILLE (AP) — To say Tim McGraw has a busy week ahead is an understatement. He’ll perform on location at the Super Bowl in New Orleans on “Good Morning America” on Friday.

He’ll appear on “Austin City Limits” on Saturday and “CBS Sunday Morning” on Sunday. He’ll be on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Tuesday, then play that night on the USS Midway in San Diego for “Ram Country on Yahoo!” He’s a guest on “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” next Wednesday, “Jimmy Kimmel Live” next Thursday, then “Chelsea Lately” on February 11. It’s to promote his new album, “Two Lanes of Freedom,” out next Tuesday.

ZAC BROWN BAND PREPARE FOR GRAMMYS, DAYTONA 500

Zac Brown BandNASHVILLE (AP) — Zac Brown Band are excited about returning to the Grammys. The first time they went was in 2010 and they won best new artist. Now they’re up for the country album Grammy.

Zac Brown says other awards have a lot of politics, but he feels the Grammys is “legitimately chosen by your peers as an artist.” Brown’s band will also play the Daytona 500 on February 24.

He says he has not yet made a set list for that show but he’s planning something “up tempo” and “rockin'” to “get everybody pumped up for the race.”

On January 29th, 1958, actors Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward were married.

Also in 1958, Challenge Records released the single “Tequila” by The Champs.

In 1962, Peter, Paul and Mary signed a record deal with Warner Brothers.

In 1977, comedian Freddie Prinze died, two days after shooting himself in the head. He was 22. He’s probably best known for his role on “Chico and the Man.”

In 1983, Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac married Kim Anderson at her Los Angeles home. They divorced the next year.

In 1992, blues great Willie Dixon died of heart failure in Burbank, California. Among his classics are “Back Door Man,” ”Little Red Rooster” and “Spoonful.”

In 1994, former Supremes singer Mary Wilson hit a freeway median and flipped the Jeep she was driving while outside of Los Angeles. She was injured and her 14-year-old son was killed.

In 1996, Garth Brooks refused his American Music Award for favorite overall artist. Brooks said Hootie and the Blowfish did more for music that year than he did.

In 1998, Paul Simon’s musical  “The Capeman” premiered in New York, with Marc Anthony in the title role. It opened to poor reviews and closed after 68 performances.

PLEA DEAL EXPECTED FROM RANDY TRAVIS

Randy TravisSHERMAN, Texas (AP) — Randy Travis is expected to enter a guilty plea in the drunk driving case in which authorities say he was naked and combative at the scene. Details of the plea agreement will be released following Travis’ court appearance Thursday in Sherman, Texas.

Travis faces a misdemeanor charge that is punishable by up to two years in jail and a $4,000 fine. Authorities have said a Trans Am registered to Travis veered off a roadway and struck several barricades in a construction zone on August 7.

Investigators say Travis’ blood-alcohol level was nearly twice the legal limit. His lawyers have said Travis has stopped drinking.

TAYLOR SWIFT NEW TOUR INCLUDES OMAHA

NEW YORK (AP) — Taylor Swift says you can expect some of her bolder choices of late — from her music to her sexier image — to be incorporated in her upcoming tour.

Swift kicks off her worldwide tour in Omaha, Neb., next month in support of her latest album, “Red,” which has sold more than 3 million copies since its release last fall and produced two No. 1 singles — “I Knew You Were Trouble” and “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.”

The 23-year-old has been showing a more revealing side lately, with plunging necklines and shorter skirts. Swift says she’s just growing up and exploring new options, but assures fans she won’t be going too far or revealing too much.

GEORGE JONES USES DOLLY PARTON’S SKILLS FOR FINAL RECORD

george jonesLOS ANGELES (AP) — George Jones has enlisted the help of Dolly Parton for his final album. Jones tells Billboard Parton is writing most of the music and he’s just waiting for her to tell him what to sing and when to sing it.

Jones will perform his final concerts as “The Grand Tour” begins Saturday outside Memphis. Jones has been reflecting a lot on his career and he says he wants to be remembered “as a singer who stayed true to country music and did it my way.”

On Jan. 28, 1948, the first Emmy Awards were given for excellence in television. The first Emmy winner was Shirley Dinsdale and her puppet, Judy Splinters, for Most Outstanding Personality.

In 1955, the “Top Ten R&B Show,” starring The Clovers and Fats Domino, among others, kicked off in New York.

In 1956, Elvis Presley made his first national TV appearance on “The Dorsey Brothers Stage Show” on CBS. After the appearance, sales of his “Heartbreak Hotel” single skyrocketed.

In 1965, The Who appeared for the first time on the British program “Ready, Steady, Go.” The band’s performance helped put the single “I Can’t Explain” into the British top 10.

In 1980, entertainer Jimmy Durante died at the age of 87.

In 1985, the African famine relief benefit song “We Are The World” was recorded in Los Angeles after the American Music Awards.

In 1991, during the American Music Awards ceremony, Gloria Estefan performed for the first time since breaking her back in a bus accident. She got a standing ovation.

In 1992, first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton apologized to country singer Tammy Wynette, who was angry over comments Mrs. Clinton made on “60 Minutes.” Mrs. Clinton had said “I’m not sitting here like some little woman standing by her man like Tammy Wynette.”

In 1995, 27-year-old Edward Burns won the Sundance Film Festival’s Grand Jury Prize for his homemade movie “The Brothers McMullen.” He was able to quit his job as a production assistant for “Entertainment Tonight.”

In 1996, the original Bert and Ernie Muppets were stolen from an exhibit in Germany. They were later returned.

In 1999, the Beastie Boys and Rage Against The Machine headlined a benefit concert for convicted cop killer Mumia Abu-Jamal. New Jersey police officers called for a boycott of both the concert and the bands.

In 2005, 45 Fiona Apple fans picketed outside Sony headquarters in New York in what they called Free Fiona Day. They wanted Sony to release Apple’s “Extraordinary Machine” album, which had been shelved for two years.

COUNTRY SINGER TONY DOUGLAS DIES

Tony DouglasATHENS, Tex. (AP) — Tony Douglas, most famous for the 1963 country hit “His ‘N Hers,” has died. The Athens Review reports Douglas died Tuesday in Athens, Texas, at the age of 83.

Douglas also had hits with “Thank You For Touching My Life” and “My Last Day” in 1973. He released his final album “Saved The Best For Last,” in 2010.

In 1971, Grace Slick and Paul Kantner of Jefferson Airplane had a baby girl. Slick claimed she wanted to name the child god (correct), but the couple decided on China.

Also in 1971, Charles Manson and three young women followers were convicted in Los Angeles of murder and conspiracy in the 1969 slayings of actress Sharon Tate and six others.

In 1980, Paul McCartney was released from a Tokyo jail after being held for more than a week. He had been arrested when marijuana was found in his luggage.

In 1990, actress Ava Gardner died of pneumonia at her London home. She was 68.

In 1992, singer Emmylou Harris joined the Grand Ole Opry.

In 1993, Michael Bolton, Boyz II Men, Garth Brooks, Mariah Carey and Reba McEntire were among the winners at the 20th annual American Music Awards.

In 1994, singer Marky Mark was sued by a Portland, Maine, woman, who said she was trampled during one of his shows. She said he invited the crowd to rush the stage after he stripped down to his underwear.

Also in 1994, Alice In Chains released the EP “Jar of Flies.” It became the first EP to hit number one on the Billboard album chart.

In 2006, “Survivor” winner Richard Hatch was convicted of failing to pay taxes on his one million dollar prize. He was sentenced to 51 months in prison.

In 2010, “Avatar” passed “Titanic” as the highest-grossing film of all time.
