GENEVIEVE C. BARRETT, 94

Genevieve C. Barrett, 94, of Scottsbluff, died Sunday, November 18, 2012, at her home.

 Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 27, 2012, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Scottsbluff with Father Vince Parsons officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff.

 Genevieve Charlotte Barrett was born July 21, 1918, at Glenrock, Wyoming to Paul W. and Addielaide (Freeman) Barrett. She went to Tacoma, Washington when only a few weeks old, then to Mitchell a few months later. She grew up north of Mitchell, and attended grade school at Sunflower and District 84 in south Sioux County. She graduated from Liberty High School north of Morrill in 1935.

 Genevieve went to work for L.B. Murphy Company in Morrill in May 1937, leaving in November 1944 to work for the Mary Morrow Shop in Scottsbluff. She managed the Mary Morrow Shop in Torrington, Wyoming for six months before going to Casper, Wyoming in July of 1945, to open and manage a Mary Morrow Shop. The shop was sold after four years and she then worked at Neusteter’s Department Store in Denver, Colorado, returning to Scottsbluff in December 1949 to again work for the Mary Morrow Shop. In February 1952, she moved to Phoenix, Arizona where she opened the Morrow’s Fashion Shop. In 1956, she moved to Las Vegas, Nevada to work for Ronzone’s Department Store as a buyer for children thru teenage. After four years she went to work for The White House in El Paso, Texas as a buyer. In November 1960, she again returned to Scottsbluff to manage the Mary Morrow Shop, where she remained until the shop was sold in January 1972. In May she went to work as a saleslady at Webber’s Furniture Store and remained there until December 1985.

 Genevieve was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and St. Agnes Alter Society, and was a former member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club. She was baptized at St. Agnes Catholic Church and received her first Communion at St. Mary’s Hospital in Scottsbluff.

 She is survived by one nephew, William Paul Barrett of Fort Worth, Texas; and one niece, Jean Barrett of Enumclaw, Washington.

 She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Vergel Barrett; and niece, Judy Joanne Dias.

RICK GONZALEZ, 54, (Obit)

Rick G. “Gonzo” Gonzalez, 54, died Monday, November 19, 2012 at Box Butte General Hospital.

He was born October 30, 1958 in Alliance to Edward J. and Cecilia (Castro) Gonzalez.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Gonzalez, his daughter, Sierra Maria Gonzalez, his step-children, Christopher M. Alvarado, Robert V. Alvarado and Santana A. Alvarado, his granddaughter, Adriana K. Alvarado and Jadyn Alvarado and his grandson, Everette Alvarado.  He is also survived by his parents, Ed and Cece Gonzalez of Alliance, his sisters and brother, Arlene and Jim Smith of Littleton, CO, Adrian and Pasha Gonzalez of Alliance, Celeste and Donnie Hull of Denver, CO, Samantha Gonzalez of Denver, and nieces and nephews, Alexis Lauterbach of Denver, Zachariah Boslau, Drew Lauterbach of Denver, Dylan Smith of Littleton, CO and John Nuñez of Denver, CO, Tre Mier of Mitchell and his great-niece, Celina Borrego. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and was an avid Denver Broncos and Nebraska Cornhusker fan.  He had a remarkable love for his music and riding his bike in the Spearfish Canyon.  Rick began working for Burlington Northern Railroad at the age of 18 and was currently working as a labor foreman at the time of his death.

Funeral services will be Friday, November 23 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.  A Rosary will precede the funeral at 9:00 a.m.  Father Lou Nollette will officiate.  Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery.  Visitation will be Wednesday, Nov. 21 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given to a charity of the donor’s choice.

LORETTA LAUNER, 94

Memorial services for Loretta Launer of Chadron, Nebraska will be held on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Chadron with Pastor Ann Sundberg officiating.  Inurnment will be held at a later date at the Trinity Cemetery in Hazard, Nebraska.  She passed away on November 14, 2012 at her home in Chadron.  She was 94.

Loretta Launer was born Jan 14, 1918 in White Oak, Ohio.  Her parents were Otto and Margaret Ninke. Her father was Lutheran Minister and they moved to Nebraska when she was a young child. Her mother died when she was a young girl and her father a few years later. She and her other siblings went to live with different families. The children managed to always stay close.  She became a nurse and worked in York, Nebraska.   Loretta was married to Don Launer in 1945 and they had four children, Donetta, Curt, Clint and Bruce.

 The family was very active and spent a lot of time on the Platte River fishing and enjoying the outdoors and baseball.  She was a devoted mother and held family values and her faith as the most important things in her life. Later, she moved from Nebraska to Washington State to be close to her daughter. She then helped raise her three grandchildren, Kirk, Karen and Kevin. They still remember her love and steadfast presence with great fondness. They all shared many good times. She loved baseball, Bible study and helping her children and grandchildren.

 She also loved going to the Mariners games. She volunteered at church and the Chamber of Commerce when able. She took college classes in her 60’s.  When her grandchildren were grown, she moved back to Chadron, Nebraska to be with her son Clint. She spent many enjoyable hours at the Senior Center with her friends.  She resided with her son for many years while making trips back to see her grandchildren get married, and visit her son Curt and Bruce in other states.  She was able to see all her great grandchildren and hold them close. She remained devoted to her family until she died peacefully at home.  Her last thoughts were of the Lord and her family.

 She is survived by her Brother Clarence Ninke, Sons Curt, Clint and Bruce, and one Daughter Donetta, 3 grandchildren, Kirk, Karen and Kevin, 6 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.  God has taken her home but we will never forget her. Now she is with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

FLORENCE PAULINE RAU, 91

Florence Pauline Rau, 91, of Scottsbluff, died Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Golden Living Center in Scottsbluff.  Her graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff with pastor Garry Schick officiating.  Memorials in her name may be made to the Zion Evangelical Church.  Her obituary may be viewed online at www.jolliffefuneralhome.com where online condolences may be made and memorial candles lit.

Florence was born December 10, 1920 in Hillrose, Colorado to Jacob and Anna Marie (Kiezer) Yakel.  She attended school in Scottsbluff, and on May 18, 1939, she married Edward H. Rau in Harrisburg, Nebraska.  She and her husband farmed all of their married life from 1939 until retiring in 1980.  They moved into town in 1990.

She was a longtime member of the Zion Evangelical Church in Scottsbluff, was a member and past president and secretary of the women’s guild there and was chairwoman of the funeral dinner committee for many years.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Jane (Jack) Kleemeyer of Douglas, WY, her daughter in law Janie Rau Melser of Springfield, CO, her sister Alvina Kufeldt of Scottsbluff and her brother Dick Yakel, also of Scottsbluff.  She is also survived by her grandchildren Jonathan Rau, Michael Rau, Jason Kleemeyer, Scott Kleemeyer, Cody Kleemeyer and Theresa Lilley and great grandchildren Audrey Jane Rau, Jordan Greeley, Taryn Lynn Greeley, Shaylee Kleemeyer, Garrett Kleemeyer, Brielle Kleemeyer, Skyla Kleemeyer, Ashley Kleemeyer and Justin Kleemeyer.

Her parents, husband Edward, sons Stanley Rau and Roger Rau, daughter in law Patricia Rau and numerous brothers and sisters preceded her in death.

SAMMIE L. SCOTT, 74, GERING

Sammie L. Scott, 74, of Gering, left this earthly place when God sent his angels to bring her to heaven on Wednesday, November 14th, 2012.  Her memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 21, at WestWay Christian Church in Scottsbluff, with Pastor Tom Strock and Pastor Chan Bayne officiating.  There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place in accordance with Sammie’s wishes.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests for memorials to be made to the First Baptist Church of Lusk, WY or your local church.  Online condolences may be made by visiting www.jolliffefuneralhome.com.  The Jolliffe Funeral Home of Scottsbluff is assisting the family.

Sammie Lee Scott was born to Cecil and Vurel (Cummings) Bayne on October 15, 1938 in Buffalo, Wyoming.  On June 5, 1956, Sammie married Frank Cook from Tonasket, Washington.  To this union was born a daughter, Kelley.  They lived in Wyoming and spent their spare time playing music with Sammie’s father in her family home.  In 1959 Sammie married Robert Scott in Lusk, Wyoming.  To this union was born another daughter, Arlene and three sons:  Kevin, Shane and Rob.  The family moved to Scottsbluff in 1963 and raised their family here.  Sammie worked as a waitress and bartender in the early years, most notably at the Lamplighter Restaurant and The 19th Hole.  She was intelligent, articulate and well read.  She was outgoing and loved people.  Sammie went back to school in the 70’s and completed her Associate’s degree.  She worked in the health care field and she was the first person to work in Quality Control at the general hospital in Scottsbluff.  Sammie and Bob moved back to the Scott family ranch in the 90’s and resided there until Bob’s death in January of 2006.  Sammie moved into town and resided in Lusk until she moved to Gering in February 2012 because of her health and to be nearer to her daughter.  She died from COPD at her home in Gering.

Survivors include her daughters, Kelley (Sam) Roseof Scottsbluff and Arlene Palmer of Wellsville, NY; sons, Shane Scott of Douglas, WY and Rob (Linda) Scott of Windsor, CO; grandsons, Scott Brunner of Lincoln,  Davin Rose of Gering  and Hayden Scott of Windsor;  granddaughters, Ashley Hillman and Danielle Rose of Scottsbluff,  Arieanna  Palmer of Rochester, NY and Hannah Scott of Windsor; brothers, Chad, Chan, Mike and Tom Bayne; and sister, Lona Thayer.

Preceding Sammie in death by a son, Kevin in 1997 and her parents.
