JASON’S YOUTUBE FLASHBACK! 11/21/12

“A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving” airs tonight on ABC!  7pm if you have cable. 6pm if you get East Coast ABC on a dish.  As we mentioned back in October, the Peanuts specials have aired on ABC since 2001.  But if you’re of a certain age, it always feels like something is missing.  Here, check out this clip of a 1987 CBS broadcast and see if you agree:

The little animation that says “CBS Special Presentation”..all throughout my childhood it was the sign of something good. Charlie Brown…Rudolph…The Grinch…or even something cheesy like “Circus Of The Stars”.

However, you have to give props to ABC. They usually air the Peanuts specials in an expanded one-hour time slot, which means nothing gets cut. CBS was scissor happy with these iconic favorites, sometimes taking as much as four minutes out of the running time. (Notice how abruptly the football gag starts in this clip.)

(Yes, I know way too much about this stuff. Fortunately I failed math three times to allow for the extra brain storage.)

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN/JON BON JOVI: PITCHING IN FOR NEW JERSEY

MENDHAM, New Jersey (AP) – Two of New Jersey’s favorite musical sons are teaming up to help those in the state affected by Superstorm Sandy. Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi are serving on the advisory board of a relief fund created to help storm victims. The Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund is a nonprofit foundation set up by state first lady Mary Pat Christie to help with long-term recovery efforts. Bon Jovi says the damage and devastation from the storm are unimaginable. But Springsteen says he knows people will rally to help their neighbors “come back better and stronger.” So far, the board has raised more than $16 million.

Well, usually we bring you old TV shows or music or movies or cartoons or other nostalgia-steeped goodies.  But with Thanksgiving on the way, we thought a public service announcement might be a good idea.  And it’s hosted by William Shatner!  I always try to follow his example…

MADONNA FANS FIRE UP THE TWITTERVERSE WITH THEIR RAGE AT LATE START

MIAMI (AP) - A later-than-usual start for a Madonna concert in Miami angered fans in attendance.

The Miami Herald (http://hrld.us/10jPWkA ) reports that Madonna didn't take the stage until just after 11:30 p.m. Monday night. She typically begins performing at 10 p.m.

Fans took to Twitter to voice their anger over the Material Girl's tardiness.

Madonna has another concert scheduled for Tuesday night in Miami. Her website says the show is sold out.

The countdown to Thanksgiving continues, and we are big Muppet fans here at the ol’ K- Cow.  So we like this clip from the 1987 Macys parade.  A lot!  Willard Scott chats with Jim Henson and Kermit the Frog (and for just a split-second forgets that one of them doesn’t really need the mic)…

I am crazy excited today about our live broadcast from Radio Shack in Alliance, now part of the Mobius family!  I’ll be there from 3 to 5pm previewing awesome Christmas gift ideas like Amazon Kindles, HDTVs, R-C toys and a whole lot more.  You know, as much as I love me some nostalgia, today is definitely better than the 80s!  I’d put my Kindle Fire HD against this state-of-the-art 80s gizmo any day!  : D
