“A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving” airs tonight on ABC! 7pm if you have cable. 6pm if you get East Coast ABC on a dish. As we mentioned back in October, the Peanuts specials have aired on ABC since 2001. But if you’re of a certain age, it always feels like something is missing. Here, check out this clip of a 1987 CBS broadcast and see if you agree:
The little animation that says “CBS Special Presentation”..all throughout my childhood it was the sign of something good. Charlie Brown…Rudolph…The Grinch…or even something cheesy like “Circus Of The Stars”.
However, you have to give props to ABC. They usually air the Peanuts specials in an expanded one-hour time slot, which means nothing gets cut. CBS was scissor happy with these iconic favorites, sometimes taking as much as four minutes out of the running time. (Notice how abruptly the football gag starts in this clip.)
(Yes, I know way too much about this stuff. Fortunately I failed math three times to allow for the extra brain storage.)
