ROLLING STONES RELEASE NEW SINGLE

NEW YORK (AP) – There’s new Rolling Stones music today. Their new single, “Doom and Gloom,” is available on iTunes today. It’s the new song added to their “Grrr! Greatest Hits” collection, out November 13. It’s also the first time the Stones have been in a studio together in seven years. The collection will also include another new song called “One More Shot.”

“MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR” FILM RE-RELEASED ON iTUNES

LONDON (AP) – The band Traffic was supposed to be in The Beatles film “Magical Mystery Tour.” The Beatles asked Traffic to perform their 1967 single “Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush,” but that was cut from the film. It’s now part of the bonus material included in the film’s release this week on iTunes. Other bonus material includes a scene John Lennon shot called “Nat’s Dream” and one with actor Ivor Cutler, who played the bus conductor, called “I’m Going In A Field.” Three new edits are included of “Your Mother Should Know,” “Blue Jay Way” and “The Fool On The Hill.” Paul McCartney provides director’s commentary.

BRIAN WILSON RESPONDS TO MIKE LOVE’S COMMENTS ON BEACH BOYS REUNION

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Mike Love has said he didn’t fire Brian Wilson from The Beach Boys. Wilson says it sort of feels like he did. Wilson writes in the Los Angeles Times they’ve had several offers to continue their reunion tour, and since it’s been fun, why wouldn’t they want to continue. Love had said they had only intended to do a certain number of shows, and he had planned for a Beach Boys tour after the reunion tour that only featured himself and Bruce Johnston. Wilson says they never discussed the offers that came in once the reunion was underway. He says he still loves Love and he welcomes a call from him.

LED ZEPPELIN SHOOT DOWN REUNION TALK

NEW YORK (AP) – Jimmy Page says if Led Zeppelin didn’t reunite in the five years since the “Celebration Day” concert, why does anyone think they’re going to do it now? Page says that show was so good because they had no warm-up gig and they knew they had to get it right the first time. Robert Plant says they were so happy they got it right because they were hanging on for dear life. Plant says doing one show is fun, but “the responsibility of doing that four nights a week for the rest of time is a different thing.” “Celebration Day,” based on their 2007 reunion show in London, will be in theaters October 17, then released on DVD in November.

PETER CRISS OPENS UP ABOUT ATTEMPTED SUICIDE

NEW YORK (AP) – Peter Criss of Kiss knows what a .357 Magnum tastes like — because he shoved the barrel of one down his throat in a suicide attempt. Rolling Stone has published an excerpt from his upcoming autobiography, “Makeup to Breakup: My Life In and Out of Kiss.” Criss writes it was 1994 and he felt like a has-been, with two failed marriages, a floundering career and hardly any money. Then the Northridge earthquake hit Southern California and destroyed what little he had. Criss says that’s when he decided to kill himself. In the rubble of his apartment, with the gun in his mouth, he saw the photo of his daughter was not damaged. That’s when he decided life was worth living. “Makeup to Breakup” comes out October 23.

JASON’S YOUTUBE FLASHBACK! 10/8/12

Chevy Chase celebrates a birthday today!  One of the original “Not Ready For Prime Time Players”, Chase’s best-loved role might be Clark Griswold–who strives for (but rarely achieves) the perfect family moment.  Here’s the trailer for the first of four theatrical “Vacation” films:

KOOL AND THE GANG STILL CELEBRATING

WASHINGTON (AP) – Robert Bell of Kool and the Gang says he never thought the group would get as much mileage as it did out of the song “Celebration.” But he notes that recently it was used by NASA as part of the final space shuttle flight. Bell says the hit has surpassed the group’s expectations by far. But Bell reminds people it isn’t the group’s only hit – and songs like “Jungle Boogie” and “Summer Madness” are still very popular, too.

NEIL YOUNG’S AUTOBIOGRAPHY SKIPS CHRONOLOGY

NEW YORK (AP) – You might read a rock biography that starts at the beginning and continues chronologically. Neil Young’s autobiography doesn’t do that. Young says if you have a conversation with people, it isn’t always linear. He says they might be distracted by something outside the window, so he thought that was a natural way to write his book. Young says his whole idea was that it would be off the top of his head and he would not spend any time organizing anything, because that’s worked for him on everything else he’s done. The book is called “Waging Heavy Peace” and it’s out now.
