CARHENGE ACQUISITION ACTION DELAYED UNTIL AUG. 6

Carhenge ImageThe City of Alliance possible acquisition of Carhenge will have to wait until the city council meets on Tuesday, August 6.

The city council was scheduled to act on the acquisition during the Thursday, July 25 meeting, but City Manager J.D. Cox says all of the paperwork and financial information necessary for transferring of the property are not in place that need to be finalized by legal counsel.

At the council’s June 13 meeting, Cox and Visitor’s Bureau director Kevin Howard presented a due diligence report that recommended the city acquire the Stonehenge replica that has served as an Alliance tourist attraction since 1987.

The Friends of Carhenge organization approached the city council last December requesting the city consider taking over its operation.

The August 6 council meeting is schedule to begin at 7 pm at the Knight Museum and Sandhills Center.
