SAN TAN VALLEY, Ariz. – Former Chadron State College basketball standout Jason Robinson lost his 27-month battle with cancer on Sunday. He was 40.
The second of the 3 Robinson brothers to star in basketball for the Eagles and a 2009 inductee into the Chadron State College Athletic Hall of Fame, he was diagnosed with large B-cell lymphoma in February 2011.
He underwent two different stem cell transplants to try to reverse the disease. The first early last year used cells harvested from his own body, while the second in mid-January of this year took stem cells from his younger brother Jeremy.
The initial results after the second transplant looked promising, but Jeremy’s wife Tresha said at the time that he wouldn’t let them get too excited until they’d passed the 100-day mark. His condition later worsened and he died not long after passing the 100-day mark.
Robinson, by profession a farrier, and his wife Tresha, a veterinarian, were both CSC graduates. They have two sons, Ty and Truitt, and a daughter Tanner. Funeral services are pending.
Jason, Jeremy, and older brother Josh Robinson are all members of the CSC Athletic Hall of Fame after coming to the school from Thompson Valley High School in Loveland, Colo…one every two years between 1988 and 1992.
Each was a 4-year starter and each ended their careers in the Top 10 of the CSC all-time scoring list. Josh is the school’s all-time leading scorer with 2,041 points, Jason…who averaged in double-figures all 4 years…had 1,581 to sit #4, and Jeremy is 10th with 1,459 points. Together the brothers scored 5,081 points and grabbed 2,128 rebounds.
Jeremy lives near Joes, Colo., where he works with horses and coaches the girls’ basketball team at Liberty High School.
Josh has a woodworking business and is the boys’ basketball coach at the Robinsons’ old high school, Thompson Valley…where he was named conference coach of the year this season.
