SIDNEY, Neb. (AP) — A Canadian company that had planned to buy one of Cabela’s former corporate buildings in Sidney is buying Cabela’s former distribution center instead.

MMP Enterprises and Sidney officials announced the deal Thursday. Sidney economic development director Melissa Norgard says Toronto-based MMP has estimated that over the next three years it will create 300 jobs that will include forklift operators, marketers and website developers.

Cabela’s once employed more than 2,000 people at its Sidney headquarters before being purchased by rival Bass Pro Shops.

MMP announced in January that it had made a deal to buy one of the corporate buildings. But Bass Pro Shops closed the distribution center three months ago, making it available for purchase. Sidney City Manager Ed Sadler says the distribution center is a better fit in MMP’s Sidney plans.
