As summer draws to a close, the staff at Big Blue Bay would like to share some tips and tricks for parents and guardians to keep in mind to help them enjoy the last few weeks of fun at the pool!
Big Blue Bay is open to the public 7 days a week from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. for Lap/Exercise and Tot Swim; 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Open Swim for all ages; 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Lap/Exercise and Tot Swim. Tot Swim is designed for children 8 years of age and younger if accompanied by an adult. If no private parties are booked at Big Blue Bay, Night Swim is open from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. The pool is available for private parties in the evening by contacting pool staff.
Please call the pool to ensure the availability of Night Swim. Information is also posted on the City of Alliance Facebook page.
A great day at the pool begins with knowing how to stay safe at the pool! Walk, don’t run! When the cement decking gets wet, it is very slippery. Stay healthy at the pool by showering with soap and water in the bathhouse before getting into the water. Big Blue Bay staff is proud to say that our pool is a coast guard approved only facility which means that we only allow coast guard approved life jackets to be used. Approved life jackets are available at the pool. If you plan to purchase your own coast guard approved floatation device for your kids, our favorite is the puddle-jumper which allows for optimum body movement while keeping your children safe. Safety of our patrons at Big Blue Bay is the top priority of our lifeguards.
During peak bather load hours, lifeguards are usually monitoring the activities of well over 50 children. To help keep your little ones safe, an adult should be within arm’s reach of any child that is 6 years old or younger that is not wearing an approved life jacket and they should keep them in the appropriate area of the pool. The final day of swimming at Big Blue Bay will be Sunday, August 16 as the majority of our staff will be returning to school.
