1995 Alliance High School Graduate Amy (Childers) Soden, 36, is awaiting a crucial, life-saving liver transplant. Even so, Amy maintains her smile and sunny disposition.
Amy, the daughter of Jim and Kris Childers and Barbara Langley, was born in Sidney, as were her parents, Jim and Barbara. Amy attended grade school at Lorenzo and Alliance, subsequently graduating from Alliance High School and Chadron State College.
Amy currently lives in Omaha with her husband, Brandon, and their 5-year-old twin sons.
As early as age 15, Amy suffered the effects of an auto immune liver disease, Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC). Over the years, Amy has endured seventeen surgeries (and counting).
Amy’s impending liver transplant will include replacement of her bile duct system, where atypical cells have been detected. It’s literally a race against the clock to rid Amy of the atypical cells before they develop into biliary cancer. Amy’s transplant will take place at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, where she will receive a partial liver from a living donor.
To help offset transplant-related expenses outside of insurance coverage (estimated between $50,000 to $80,000), for Amy and her donor, a benefit will be held: November 12th, 6pm at the West Side Event Center, Alliance NE
