BBGH CNO SALUTES AREA NURSES

The week of May 6-12 is here and Nurses Week is now upon us.

Nurses Week always begins with the founder of modern day nursing, Florence Nightingale’s birthday.

I’d like to publicly thank all those who carry the license and more importantly, who are practicing as nurses. Nurses are a special breed of people. They portray the full range of emotions varying from calmness in strife to angels of mercy. They are fiercely protective of their patients and will advocate with other care providers and or visitors to make sure their patients’ needs are met. Nurses can be the essence of efficiency and organization amidst a bevy of incoming orders, newly arriving patients, distractions of phone calls, and crises d’jour. No day is typical because so many things are subject to change. Nurses must be structured yet flexible and able to determine which situations need the most attention and which nuisances are to be handled by someone else. Nurses see people at the happiest and saddest times of their lives. As a nurse I’ve always considered it a privilege to witness some of life’s most critical moments. Nursing continues to be ranked by the public in a recent Gallup poll, as the most trusted of all occupations.

Box Butte General Hospital appreciates and recognizes the value of all of our staff and health professionals. We realize that nurses form the largest number of our health care workers and spend the most time with patients. The important role of nursing includes the hands-on contact, high skill competency, and genuine caring for the patient.  Nurses make a difference in the lives of patients. We have some of the best nurses there are and I am most grateful they have chosen to live and work in Alliance. We are fortunate that eleven of the nurses on staff at BBGH are nationally certified in an area of specialty.

Please join me in saying, “Thank You,” to the nurses in our community for being there when we need them and for choosing nursing as their career.

Sincerely,

Jane McConkey,

Chief Nursing Officer,

Box Butte General Hospital
