CHICAGO (AP) – Before we got our movie reviews from the Internet, we looked at Roger Ebert and Gene Siskel’s thumbs.

They voted thumbs up or thumbs down depending on how they felt about the latest films on their TV series “Siskel and Ebert: At the Movies.” The show helped make Ebert the most famous reviewer of his time.

Ebert was asked by AP Radio in 2002 what made a movie great and he quoted a British reviewer who said: “a great movie is a movie I cannot bear the thought of never seeing again.”

Ebert died the day after he announced the return of the cancer that caused him to lose parts of his jaw and temporarily the ability to speak, eat and drink. His movie partner, Gene Siskel, died 14 years earlier. Ebert was 70 years old.

LOS ANGELES (AP) – January Jones couldn’t cope with living in the 60s like her character Betty in “Mad Men.”

Jones says she couldn’t live in a time where women were considered inferior to men. She says she’s “a very independent person.” She says she “wouldn’t be satisfied with being bossed around by a bunch of men.” Jones joked that maybe she’d have to be a lesbian to survive the 60s.

Season six of “Mad Men” opens on Sunday.

LONDON (AP) – If The Rolling Stones were going to do a farewell tour, Mick Jagger wouldn’t tell anyone. He says it’s embarrassing when acts do farewell tours and then return. Jagger says their upcoming tour isn’t a farewell tour anyway, because you never know what might happen. He’s in dance classes so he can stay fit, but Jagger says there are still moves he’d love to do that he knows he can’t. Keith Richards says the shows they did in London and New York last year went so well, he could see the other guys wanted to play more. Richards says, “I didn’t want to rehearse six weeks for four shows.”

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Alice Cooper has gotten back the jacket he wore in “Wayne’s World.” A year ago, the Los Angeles storage facility that houses the Alice Cooper Archives was burglarized.

The jacket was stolen, along with the original sculpture from the “Hey Stoopid” album cover and several original vinyl records. Most of the items are still missing.

However, Cooper’s website says the Los Angeles police reported a man found the jacket behind a dumpster and turned it in. He requested anonymity and no reward. Cooper is so glad to get the jacket back he’s taken it out of its glass case and wears it regularly.

Last night, “American Idol” needed medics more than judges. Kree Harrison looked awfully stiff as she performed. Keith Urban asked why and it turns out Harrison has a pinched nerve. Candice Glover was also having mobility issues. She’s got a broken toe, from an April Fools prank that backfired. But the judges said at least they were singing well. Nicki Minaj liked Lazaro (LAZ’-ah-roh) Arbos’ take on the rock classic “We Are The Champions.” She said it was like “crack juice.” Tonight, another hopeful gets the bad news.

SURVIVOR

It takes brains to win Immunity on “Survivor” — raw pigs’ brains. Last night’s “Survivor: Caramoan” had the first Individual Immunity Challenge of the season. It was a gross-out eating contest, with the final dish a plate of pigs’ brains. Cochran managed to out slurp Malcolm and win the challenge. At Tribal Council, the favorites still held the advantage over the fans. But returning player Corrine didn’t benefit. She may have been a little too vocal in plotting to oust some of the other favorites. Her elimination didn’t come as much of a surprise, though. And Corrine admits she only liked a couple of her tribemates.

UNDATED (AP) – “Welcome! This is ‘Late Night with Jimmy Fallon … for now.” That’s how Fallon opened his show last night. It was his first since NBC made it official, that Fallon will be taking over for Jay Leno on the “Tonight Show” in about a year.

Leno opened the Tonight Show by saying it had been a tough day. Leno says he had to call David Letterman, to “tell him he didn’t get the ‘Tonight Show’ again.”

Letterman noted that he’s known Leno for 38 years. Letterman congratulated Leno “on a nice long run” on the Tonight Show. But Letterman adds, that is if Leno is “not coming back.”
