The Alliance Varsity Tennis Team defeated Gering and Scottsbluff Tuesday afternoon in Gering.

In Singles action:

Keagan Hill (A) won, 6-1, 6-0, over Brian Doll (G).

Hill also defeated Xavier Perez (S), 6-0, 6-0.

Alex Elston (A) won, 6-3, 6-1, over Jason Doll (G).

Elston also defeated Eric Olsen (S), 6-1, 6-0.

In Doubles play:

Kyler Kaping and Keith Sanders (A), defeated Noah Miller and Alex Lupher (G), 6-0, 6-1.

Kaping and Sanders also defeated Traver Pettijohn and Jean Mercer-Smith (S), 6-0, 6-1.

Brodie Fielding and Brian Gould (A), defeated Anthony Ramierez and Vince Moreno, 6-1, 6-3.

HEMINGFORD HIRES NEW VILLAGE CLERK

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Village of Hemingford filled the position of Village Clerk/Treasurer on Tuesday night, promoting Deputy Clerk Ann Trickler-Wessel to the position.

The Hemingford Ledger reports that Trickler-Wessel was among 13 applicants for the job and one of four finalists interviewed. She has 22 years of experience working at the village office and served as the interim Village Clerk for the past four months.

The village will soon look to hire a billing clerk to work in the municipal office with Trickler-Wessel. Advertising for the position will likely begin after the next regular meeting scheduled for October 2.

“First of all it is a great honor to even compete in this golf tournament, as you have to quaify during the season by shooting a score lower than 100,” said AHS coach Nate Lanik.

“Danielle and Ashtyn did that for the entire season so hats off to them.”

“To separate the field the course was set up to challenge the girls, and you can tell that happened by the scores that were turned in by these girls. They moved the tees back and made the course longer and then there were some tricky pin placements.”

“Now it is time to correct the minor mistakes and prepare for Districts on Monday in Holdrege. This will be one of the toughest tournaments of the year with very good competition, with a majority of the kids that place in our District tournament going on and placing at the State meet. We will have to be at the top of our game when we take the course on Monday.”

THE BEATLES RELEASE REMASTERED CATALOG ON VINYL

LONDON (AP) – For the old school Beatles fans who are purists about the music, the remastered studio albums that were released digitally three years ago will now come out on vinyl. They will be the 12 UK albums, the “Magical Mystery Tour” album from the U.S. and “Past Masters: Volumes One and Two.” The White Album will include the original poster, and “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” will include the original cutouts. The albums will be available individually or as a limited-edition boxed set beginning November 13.

 

DONALD ANDERSON, 90

Don Anderson, 90 of Lodgepole, Nebraska died Sunday afternoon, September 23, 2012 at the Via Christi Health Hospital in Wichita, Kansas.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, September 28, 2012 in the Lodgepole United Methodist Church with Pastor Ezekiel Koesch officiating. Graveside services with military rites will be at 3:30 P.M. Friday in the Whitman Cemetery at Whitman, Nebraska.
Memorials have been established to the Book Mobile through the Sidney Public Library.
Visitation will be held at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney on Thursday from 1:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. with the family present from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.

Donald Richard Anderson, the son Clyde and Bertha (Glause) Anderson was born August 14, 1922 at Palmer, Nebraska. He grew up in the sand hills of Nebraska where he worked for several ranches in the area. He served as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army during World War II.
After his discharge he returned to the sand hills where he met Deloris Evans and they were married in August of 1951. To this union four children were born. They made their home in the sand hills where he worked as a ranch hand. The family moved to Chadron in 1966 where he was employed in various occupations. In 1970 they moved to Lodgepole where he worked for different road construction companies.
Don was a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include two sons: Rick and wife Carrie Anderson of Chadron, NE and Randy and wife Julie Anderson of Tucson, AZ; two daughters: Cathy and husband Gene Brown of Latham, KS and Cindy and husband Allan Bruns of Dundee, OR; five grandchildren: Misty, Amanda, Michael, Elyse and Erica and two great-grandchildren Alpine and Zoey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers and six sisters.

In 2012 all surviving members of The Beach Boys reunited to tour the globe in celebration of their 50th anniversary, and released a new album, “That’s Why God Made The Radio.”  Although Mike Love, Brian Wilson, Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston and David Marks are all well past retirement age, they brought tremendous energy–and their trademark harmonies–to the 50th tour and album. 

 

 

STEVIE NICKS DOCUMENTARY OUT NEXT MONTH

NEW YORK (AP) – Stevie Nicks keeps a white stallion in her backyard and likes costume parties and tap dancing. These are some of the things we learn about her in a new documentary, “In Your Dreams – Stevie Nicks.” The film follows her as she wrote her “In Your Dreams” album in 2010. Nicks called that “the best year of my life.” The film will premiere at the Hamptons Film Festival on October 7 and then tour other film festivals.

 

 

WHITNEY HOUSTON TO BE REMEMBERED IN CONCERT TV SPECIAL

NEW YORK (AP) - Celine Dion, Jennifer Hudson and Usher will pay tribute to the late Whitney Houston in a one-hour TV special.

"We Will Always Love You: A Grammy Salute to Whitney Houston" will tape Oct. 11 at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live and will feature performances by Dion, Hudson and Usher. It will air Nov. 16 on CBS.

The Recording Academy announced Thursday that the special will also include Houston's "most memorable performances" and interviews with various artists. More performers will be announced.

Tickets for the event go on sale Thursday.

Houston died at age 48 in February. Authorities called her death an accidental drowning, complicated by heart disease and cocaine use.

The compilation album, "I Will Always Love You - The Best of Whitney Houston," will be released on Nov. 13.
