SETH MACFARLANE PREPARING TO HOST THE OSCARS…WILL WE SEE HILARIOUS RANDOM CUTAWAYS BREAK INTO BORING ACCEPTANCE SPEECHES?

NEW YORK (AP) – Seth MacFarlane has started preparing to host the Oscars. He tells “Extra” that he’s started writing and promises that the show will be “filled with the unexpected.” MacFarlane was honored at Variety’s Power of Comedy, a benefit to raise money for cancer treatment and research. MacFarlane’s mother died of cancer two years ago.

“Brian, if the host isn’t funny this whole evening will be           ru-ee-nd!” “Why are you saying it like that?!”

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN/JON BON JOVI: PITCHING IN FOR NEW JERSEY

MENDHAM, New Jersey (AP) – Two of New Jersey’s favorite musical sons are teaming up to help those in the state affected by Superstorm Sandy. Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi are serving on the advisory board of a relief fund created to help storm victims. The Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund is a nonprofit foundation set up by state first lady Mary Pat Christie to help with long-term recovery efforts. Bon Jovi says the damage and devastation from the storm are unimaginable. But Springsteen says he knows people will rally to help their neighbors “come back better and stronger.” So far, the board has raised more than $16 million.

ELMO PUPPETEER RESIGNS AFTER SECOND ACCUSER FILES SUIT

NEW YORK (AP) – The college student suing Kevin Clash for $5 million says he didn’t know he was the man behind Elmo when they met on a gay chat line when he was 15. Cecil Singleton says he was “shocked” when he found out what Clash did for a living. He says he and Clash had sexual contact for two weeks, but didn’t sleep together. He says Clash would go on gay chat lines for underage boys and meet them for sex. He says he hadn’t planned on coming forward until he heard another man accuse Clash of having sex with him when he was 16. That man later took back his accusation and said he wasn’t underage when they had a consensual relationship. Singleton’s lawyer says he’s been contacted by two other potential victims. Clash has resigned from “Sesame Street,” saying he’s “deeply sorry to be leaving.” Sesame Workshop says it was “a sad day for Sesame Street.”

LORETTA LAUNER, 94

Memorial services for Loretta Launer of Chadron, Nebraska will be held on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Chadron with Pastor Ann Sundberg officiating.  Inurnment will be held at a later date at the Trinity Cemetery in Hazard, Nebraska.  She passed away on November 14, 2012 at her home in Chadron.  She was 94.

Loretta Launer was born Jan 14, 1918 in White Oak, Ohio.  Her parents were Otto and Margaret Ninke. Her father was Lutheran Minister and they moved to Nebraska when she was a young child. Her mother died when she was a young girl and her father a few years later. She and her other siblings went to live with different families. The children managed to always stay close.  She became a nurse and worked in York, Nebraska.   Loretta was married to Don Launer in 1945 and they had four children, Donetta, Curt, Clint and Bruce.

The family was very active and spent a lot of time on the Platte River fishing and enjoying the outdoors and baseball.  She was a devoted mother and held family values and her faith as the most important things in her life. Later, she moved from Nebraska to Washington State to be close to her daughter. She then helped raise her three grandchildren, Kirk, Karen and Kevin. They still remember her love and steadfast presence with great fondness. They all shared many good times. She loved baseball, Bible study and helping her children and grandchildren.

She also loved going to the Mariners games. She volunteered at church and the Chamber of Commerce when able. She took college classes in her 60’s.  When her grandchildren were grown, she moved back to Chadron, Nebraska to be with her son Clint. She spent many enjoyable hours at the Senior Center with her friends.  She resided with her son for many years while making trips back to see her grandchildren get married, and visit her son Curt and Bruce in other states.  She was able to see all her great grandchildren and hold them close. She remained devoted to her family until she died peacefully at home.  Her last thoughts were of the Lord and her family.

She is survived by her Brother Clarence Ninke, Sons Curt, Clint and Bruce, and one Daughter Donetta, 3 grandchildren, Kirk, Karen and Kevin, 6 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.  God has taken her home but we will never forget her. Now she is with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Well, usually we bring you old TV shows or music or movies or cartoons or other nostalgia-steeped goodies.  But with Thanksgiving on the way, we thought a public service announcement might be a good idea.  And it’s hosted by William Shatner!  I always try to follow his example…

NICKI/MARIAH RELATIONS ON IDOL SET: AWK-WARD!

NEW YORK (AP) – Nicki Minaj says when she took the job as a judge on “American Idol,” she didn’t realize how much of, well, a JOB it would be. She says things are “going good” so far. But Minaj says she didn’t expect she’d be putting in some “very long days.” She says sometimes she’s needed on set for eight hours to judge artists – and that clashes with her style. Minaj says she’s “used to be being able to handle my business at any time” – and she doesn’t have time to grab her Blackberry to keep up with things. But on the whole, she says she loves the Idol experience – to a point. When asked by The Associated Press how she and fellow judge Mariah Carey were getting along, the phone line went dead and a publicist asked the interviewer to move on to another question.
