Nebraska Secretary of State Warns Again About Mailing

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska’s secretary of state is once again warning the public about a mailing that seeks $150 from businesses before they file their biennial reports with the state.

Secretary of State John Gale said Monday that the documents provided by the company are not necessary to file with his office. Gale says the mailers have surfaced again because many nonprofits and limited liability companies are preparing to file their reports.

The mailing comes from a group calling itself the Nebraska Council for Corporations.

Gale says notices from his office are easily recognizable. They contain his name and title, the image of Nebraska’s state seal and contact information for the state’s Business Services Division.

Gale says anyone with questions or concerns can contact the Nebraska attorney general’s office.

Ricketts Touts Nebraska Beef, Pork During Asia Trip

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A trade delegation led by Gov. Pete Ricketts is looking for ways to place more Nebraska beef and pork in Asia.

The delegation on Monday visited a food service training institute in Macau. The governor’s office says the group is working on a potential agreement in which cooking classes would use Nebraska meat products.

Later in the day, Ricketts and the trade delegation hosted an annual Nebraska barbeque event in Macau. More than 300 Macau food industry representatives attended the event to learn about the benefits of Nebraska pork and beef. The governor’s office says Ricketts signed several letters of intent with Macau-based restaurants to purchase Nebraska beef.

Ricketts also visited Tongji University in Shanghai, China, to discuss a partnership with the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

300 Rally In Support of Officers Policing Pipeline Protests

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Several hundred people gathered at the state Capitol to show support for law enforcement officers working the Dakota Access Pipeline protests.

Republican Sen. John Hoeven told the crowd Sunday afternoon that exercising First Amendment rights should be done peacefully. Hoeven says the officers are working to protect the right to protest, as well as the farmers, ranchers and others in the area.

The Bismarck Tribune reports Lt. Gov. Drew Wrigley and Rep. Kevin Cramer joined Hoeven at the rally. Hoeven cited the law enforcement agencies involved since August, including federal agents, the National Guard, Bureau of Criminal Investigations, highway patrol, sheriff’s departments and police.

Tribal leaders, civil liberties groups and protesters have criticized law enforcement for being too heavy handed in their approach to demonstrators.

Deer Exchange Helps Nebraska Hunters Donate Venison

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraskans who want to donate or receive deer meat can participate in the Deer Exchange.

This program brings together hunters who have a surplus of deer with people who could use the venison.

The Deer Exchange runs through March 1. Hunters and potential recipients join a database and search for other participating parties in their area. The venison may not be sold, but recipients may pay for the processing.

Recipients will have the choice of accepting whole field-dressed deer, skinned and boned deer, wrapped and frozen deer or processed meat. Donors are responsible for field dressing and checking deer at a check station before transfer. Transfers tags are available in the 2016 Big Game Guide.

To join the Deer Exchange, go online at www.OutdoorNebraska.gov/deerexchangeprogram .
