‘ARGO’, ‘LES MIZ’, ‘HOMELAND’ CLEAN UP AT GOLDEN GLOBES

BEVERLY HILLS (AP) – Ben Affleck won’t be repeating as a best director winner at the Oscars. Affleck’s Iranian hostage drama “Argo” won the Golden Globe for best dramatic film last night. Affleck also wins for best director. But he’s not nominated in the director category for an Academy Award. Affleck says he’s OK with that. He says he’s happy they’ve been nominated for a total of seven Oscars. “Lincoln” went in leading the Globes with seven nominations but wins only one award, best actor for Daniel Day-Lewis. “Zero Dark Thirty” star Jessica Chastain wins the Globe for dramatic actress.

“Les Miserables” takes home three Golden Globe awards. It wins for best musical or comedy. Co-stars Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway also win acting honors for their roles. Jackman is battling the flu. But he told the crowd he feels great after winning his Globe. Hathaway has an unusual use for her trophy. She says she has a “lovely blunt object” to use “as a weapon against self-doubt.”

“Homeland” is the big TV drama winner at the Golden Globe awards. It wins for best TV drama, for the second-straight year. Stars Damian Lewis and Claire Danes win the acting honors. It’s the fourth Globe for Danes since she was a teenager and she says the awards have been very good to her. HBO’s movie about Sarah Palin’s 2008 vice presidential campaign, “Game Change,” picks up three Globes. One of those awards went to Julianne Moore, who played Palin.

HBO’s “Girls” picked up two Golden Globe awards for best comedy. Show creator Lena Dunham wins best comic actress, beating out nominees Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, who also hosted last night’s ceremony. Don Cheadle picks up the best comedy actor award for his Showtime series, “House of Lies.” All the commercial networks were snubbed at the awards.
