ALLIANCE STREETSCAPE BIDS REJECTED

The Alliance City Council Thursday night rejected the downtown Alliance Streetscape bids as they came in $200,000 over budget.

City Manager J.D. Cox says t he Box Butte Avenue project from 2nd Street to 3rd Street will be rebid, with Phase I of the project to be completed by the end of the year instead of prior to Heritage Days.

The project includes new sidewalk, new curb and gutter and new lighting.

Phase Two of Streetscape will be completed on Box Butte Avenue between Third Street and Fifth Street during calendar year 2014.

 Also during last night’s meeting:

— K.L. Wood of Alliance was awarded a bid to rebuild the steps at City Hall that will feature heating elements (similar to the library) to keep ice and snow off the steps.

— Doug Dietrich of Alliance has signed a seven-month contract to serve as the Skyview Golf Course Pro beginning April 15.

The Choice Gas program’s ACE returned $16,900 to the city for community betterment projects.

And Box Butte General Hospital donated $1,000 from its “Grime Time” promotion last October. The money will be used to install direction signs for disc golf at Laing Park.
