The Alliance Spartans Seniors had their moments last weekend in Rapid City, but came up short in all four of their games.
They opened with Sturgis, giving up five early runs and then battling back. They fell short 5-3 in the contest. Jayden Holman suffered the loss.
In game two, the Spartans spotted Rapid City Post 320 seven runs in the second inning and couldn’t recover and lost, 10-5. Andy Gomez was the losing pitcher in the game.
Day two of the tournament started off well with the Spartans building a 7-1 lead on the Casper Drillers only to see the lead disappear in the bottom of the 7th. The final score was 8-9. Jeff Heckman suffered the loss.
In their final game the Spartans played perhaps the best team in the tournament in Canon City, Colorado. Canon City scored five runs on two hits and two Spartan errors in the first inning. They never scored again, while the Spartans put four runs on the board over a three inning span, but it was not enough as the Spartans fell, 5-4. Jeff Heckman took the loss.
“We out hit three of the four teams we played, but unfortunately we chalked up more errors as well” said coach Jeff Harris of the Spartans’ performance. “Our pitching was very good overall and we saw some great individual efforts. We’ll need to fix a couple of things in the next week so that we can make our final run into the district tournament.”
The Alliance Seniors will play their final home games on July 11 at 5:00 and 7:30 when they welcome Spearfish, SD to town. They will celebrate the TeamMates organization at the beginning of the game.
