The Alliance Spartans dropped a 1-0 decision in their season opener with the Westco Zephyrs at Cleveland Field in Scottsbluff on Saturday, May 11.
Isaac Burnham and Jeffery Heckman teamed up to throw a no-hitter, but a wild pitch in the second inning allowed the Zephyrs to plate the only run of the game.
Coach Scott Gullion said “we played excellent defense, and did many positive things with our bats, but couldn’t find a hole with our hits”.
The defense had no errors and featured two double plays.
Jayden Holman had the only hit for either squad.
Gullion wrapped up by saying, “this team has a chance to do some special things this year. We’ll work hard for the next week or so and look forward to getting back on the field on the 22 in Rapid City.”
The Senior Spartans will play their home opener on May 28 with the Junior team playing at 5 pm and the Senior team playing at 7:30 pm.
The Juniors open at home with their annual Memorial Day Tournament May 25-26.

The Alliance Spartan Juniors dropped a tough game 6-0 to the Westco Express at Cleveland Field in Scottsbluff.
Jordan Mills started the game and pitched three full innings.T
Tucker Hill took the mound until the sixth inning, then Jeffrey Heusman pitched the remainder of the game.
The Express scored 6 runs on 6 hits with no errors throughout the game, The Spartans had no runs on 1 hit, by Kellon Hall in the top of the seventh inning, with two errors.
Junior Spartans head coach Steve Gullion said, “I was pretty happy with how we played as a team, we saw some very positive things throughout the game and also found some things that we need to work on, but overall a good outing for our young team.”
