The Alliance Bulldog Marching Band performs at Chadron State College in October, 2012. The band begins a new tradition later this summer as incoming director, David May, implements a band camp.

New Alliance High School Band Director David May has announced that he has changed the dates for the school’s first-ever summer band camp.

Bulldog Marching Band members and their parents probably received a letter in the mail recently outlining the band camp dates, times and a list of items needed for the camp.

Due to an oversight, the camp was accidentally scheduled during the Box Butte County Fair. To avoid that conflict, the new dates are now July 31, August 1, and August 2, as well as August 12, 13 and 14.

The band camp hours on July 31, August 1, and August 2 will be from 7:30 am to 12 noon.

The August 12 and 13 hours will be from 6 pm to 8 pm, and the August 14 Band Parents’ Preview night will be held at 6 pm.

The band camp is for all members of the the Bulldog Marching Band who are entering grades 9-12.

Band members should bring lots of drinking water; arched athletic shoes (no flip-flops, boots, ect); athletic shorts, t-shirts, tank-tops, (NO jeans!); sunscreen of at least 40 spf; instruments and all accessories; music in a binder with a pencil, and a great attitude!” said May.

May encourages band members and parents to become a member of the bands’ updated facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/groups/415997851832495/?fref=ts

This group page is designed to inform the current members and promote the activities of Alliance High School Bands,” he said.  “I am very honored and excited to be a part of the great tradition and history of the Alliance band program.  I do expect great things from the great students in Alliance.”

However, due to Mr. May’s previous commitments for the month of July, and the continued illness of assistant band director Laura Mangas, the bands will not be marching in the July 20 Alliance Heritage Days parade.
